Lenovo mobile phone, once considered as the development direction of domestic mobile phones, was finally sold. Lenovo Group (992.HK) announced yesterday that it would sell its mobile phone business to a number of private equity funds such as Hony Capital held by Lenovo founder Liu Chuanzhi for 654.38 billion US dollars.

Observers pointed out that this move highlights the dilemma of domestic mobile phones. Under the impact of international giants such as Nokia and Motorola, the troubled domestic mobile phones have not found their own accurate development direction so far. At present, Amoi, Bird and many other domestic mobile phone companies are still at a loss.

Four private equity funds took over.

Lenovo has sold Lenovo Mobile to four private equity funds-Jade Ahead, Elephant Venture Capital, AmpleGrowth and SuperPioneer for US$ 6,543.8 billion.

Among them, JadeAhead and Hongchang Enterprise are wholly-owned subsidiaries of Hony Capital. Together, the two companies will hold a 60% stake in Lenovo's mobile phone business; Elephant Venture Capital and SuperPioneer hold the remaining 40%, and the latter two funds are wholly owned by a man named Yang Xiangyang.

Lenovo Mobile has a registered capital of 65.438 yuan+87.50 million yuan and a net asset of 290.372 billion yuan. The rights and interests of this sale include all assets, some intellectual property rights and trademarks. Lenovo Group will benefit from this $66 million transaction.

It is worth noting that Hony Capital, the buyer of Lenovo Mobile, is a subsidiary of Legend Holdings, the parent company of Lenovo Group, and Zhao Linghuan, the president of Hony Capital, is an emerging young marshal under Liu Chuanzhi in the past two years.

Losses are the main reason for the sale.

Although Lenovo's explanation for the sale of mobile phone business is that the company will concentrate on developing computer business, it is generally believed in the industry that the loss of Lenovo mobile phone is the main reason for the sale.

A few years ago, Lenovo mobile phones rose rapidly, relying on high-end smart phones to obtain high profit margins, but in 2007, the performance turned sharply, and the mobile phone business was at a loss in the last quarter.

Lenovo's fourth quarter report for the period ending June 3, 2007 (5438+February 3 1) released yesterday shows that Lenovo's mobile phone sales in this quarter decreased by 3 1% compared with the same period in 2006, and its comprehensive sales amounted to 108 million US dollars, accounting for 2% of the total sales of the group, and its proportion continued to shrink. At present, Lenovo mobile phone ranks fourth in China mobile phone market, with a market share of about 5.9%.

Yang, chairman of the board of directors of Lenovo Group, said yesterday that after the acquisition of IBM's PC business, Lenovo needs to make a difference in the global market, and the management hopes to concentrate more on making PCs; I hope that after the mobile phone business is sold, it can return to the past high-profit state through a new and more flexible operating system.
