On July 26th, 20 10, the American library amended the exemption clause in the Millennium Digital Copyright Act, and recognized the legality of jailbreaking for iOS, but this ruling did not extend to other devices, such as the PS3. Geohot was sued by Sony for jailbreaking and unlocking PS3. Saurik, the founder of Cydia, a jailbreak software community, estimates that about 10% of iPhone in the world have been jailbroken.
In 20 12 years, the exemption clause of Apple iPhone jailbreak is about to expire. In the spring of 20 12, the US Copyright Office held a hearing on the application for exemption order of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and the final decree will be officially announced in June of 20 12. The American Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) appeals to everyone to reiterate this exemption clause to the Copyright Office, and also hopes to further extend the relevant clauses to tablet devices, and even the jailbreak behavior for video game consoles also hopes to include relevant clauses.
