Formerly the deputy director of the Yunnan Provincial Education Commission and the president of Yunnan University, he presided over the demonstration, project establishment and construction of the first phase of the "211" project of Yunnan University; the president of Yunnan University of Technology, completed the merger of four engineering colleges.

He served as a member of the first and second Higher Education Establishment Evaluation Committees of the National Education Commission, vice chairman of the National Higher Education Laboratory Work Research Association, and executive director of the National Higher Education Industry Association.

He graduated from Yunnan University in 1963 and stayed at the school to teach. He was once rated as a provincial-level outstanding teacher in Yunnan Province.

From January 1983 to May 1985, he was sent to the Computer Science Department of Western Illinois University in the United States for further study and received a master's degree in computer science.

From October 1988 to January 1989, he was appointed by the State Education Commission to serve as an intern at the University of Wisconsin-Central in the United States as president, inspecting higher education management in the United States.

In February 2001, he participated in the establishment of the first private university in Yunnan Province that can independently issue national junior college diplomas and served as the dean.

Zhang Chao is currently the vice president and party branch secretary of Yunnan Vocational College of Science and Technology Information.

Formerly deputy secretary of the Party Committee and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of Yunnan University.

He has successively served as deputy director of the Yunnan University Professor Evaluation Committee, deputy director of the Degree Committee, and academic committee member.

Graduated from the Department of Biology of Yunnan University.

Later, he graduated from the advanced research class on parasitic biology organized by the Ministry of Education and chaired by Tang Zhongzhang and Tang Chongti, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

He has been engaged in teaching and scientific research in zoology and parasitology for a long time, and has completed a number of National Natural Science Foundation and provincial, prefectural and municipal scientific research projects.

Published more than 20 academic papers in academic journals at or above the provincial level and in Hong Kong, Taiwan and other places, and co-authored one treatise.

The paper has been cited and requested by universities and scientific research institutions in the United States, the former Soviet Union, Canada, Spain and other countries, as well as key domestic universities and scientific research institutions.

Scientific research achievements and papers have won the second and third prizes of provincial and municipal scientific and technological progress awards and the first prize of outstanding papers for many times. Two scientific research achievements were selected to be published in the book "Encyclopedia of Chinese Technological Achievements" (Science and Technology Publishing).

The scientific research achievement "Research on the Biology of Human and Animal Coccidia" won the second prize of Yunnan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award in 2004 [awarded by the provincial government in 2005].

He once participated in an academic symposium on the education of ethnic minorities across the Taiwan Strait held in Taipei, Taiwan. The paper "Health Education of Ethnic Minorities in Yunnan Province" was selected to be read at the meeting, and was selected to be published in volumes of the Taiwan Teachers' Education Book "Education of Ethnic Minorities in Mainland China"
