Avari was born in Mburu, Mburu Province, British Tanzania on 1938. He is the first Tanzanian athlete to participate in the Olympic Games. 1968 participated in the men's marathon of Mexico Olympic Games. Ahwari was crushed and injured at 19 km. He dragged his injured knee and dislocated shoulder to finish the whole race. When he ran to the stadium, the award was over, but people returned to the stands to cheer for the uncrowned king.
