The main business areas include: planning, formulation, release and implementation of medium and long-term development strategy of aviation science and technology; Management of aviation pre-research, science fund, foreign technical cooperation and other scientific research projects; Overall scheme planning and conceptual design of large-scale system integration projects; Multi-objective comprehensive demonstration and evaluation of the scheme based on high-level simulation technology and test means; Carry out research on new technologies and new products with great strategic significance for future development.

China Aviation Research Institute, affiliated to China Aviation Industry Corporation, is an aviation pre-research and scientific research institution. At present, it mainly undertakes four tasks to promote the development of aviation science and technology: basic theory and technology research, applied technology research, technical research in model development, large-scale test and technical appraisal, involving nine fields of research and the cultivation of advanced scientific and technological personnel, including: aerodynamic research, aircraft structure and strength research, engine technology research, aviation materials and manufacturing technology research, flight technology research, aviation computing technology and software research, flight control and inertial navigation research, and aviation airborne electronic equipment research.
