Ashmoline Museum, located in BeaumontStreet in the center of Oxford, England, is the largest of the five museums in Oxford University. Built in 1683, the museum was designed and built by CharlesCockerell, who absorbed the classical style of ancient Greece and adopted the Ionian column architecture. It is the first public museum in Britain, one of the earliest public museums in the world, and the largest and richest university museum in the world.
From 2006 to 2009, with the support of the British Heritage Foundation, the Ashmoline Museum was designed and expanded by architect RickMather and exhibition design company Metaphor. In June 2009, the three-year expansion project of the old museum was completed. The exhibition area of the new museum has doubled, the museum has undergone extensive and comprehensive modernization, and a new restaurant and gift shop have been built. In February 2009, Queen Elizabeth II personally cut the ribbon for the official opening of the new museum. In 20 12, ashmolean museum received a grant of US$ from Andrew W Mellon Foundation 1. 1 to establish a university participation project or UEP plan.
