I just watched this movie, which is quite shocking. It's really hard for small people to make a living, such as the hero and heroine, the aunt who bought the fund, and the police couple. These honest people are increasingly oppressed by life, and they don't know where the hope is and where the fairness is, but speculators, usurers and powerful people who control the economy are like a duck to water. It's a realistic movie with a dramatic story and a little black humor at the end. It's strange that such a good film didn't win the Academy Award, but was awarded to the sensational drama.
