Philosophy Department

The philosophy department of Xiamen University was founded in 1922, with a long history and profound academic tradition, and a group of scholars such as Zhang Yi, Zhu Qianzhi and Deng Yizhe have taught here successively. With the efforts of several generations of scholars, the Department of Philosophy has become an important place for philosophy teaching and research in southern China.

The Department of Philosophy has undergraduate philosophy majors, including philosophy classes and classes in the direction of Chinese studies; In 25, he was granted the right to confer a doctorate in the first-class discipline of philosophy, and in 27, he was approved to set up a postdoctoral mobile station in the first-class discipline of philosophy. Its postdoctoral mobile station, doctoral program and master program cover eight majors in two disciplines, including: Marxist philosophy, China philosophy, foreign philosophy, philosophy of science and technology, religion, logic, ethics and aesthetics. There are also research institutes of philosophy, religion, Taoism and traditional culture, and Buddhism.

The philosophy department has a strong faculty. There are 14 doctoral supervisors, of which professors account for 4% of the total number of teachers and associate professors account for 35%. Since the 199s, the Department of Philosophy has presided over more than 4 research projects at the provincial and ministerial levels, published more than 2 monographs and textbooks, and published more than 1,9 academic papers. Won the National Social Science Fund Excellent Achievement Award and the China Book Award; There are more than 5 provincial and ministerial awards for outstanding achievements in social sciences, which have had a great impact on academic circles at home and abroad.

The main courses offered by philosophy major are: Marxist philosophy, logic, aesthetics, ethics, religion, sociology, psychology, philosophy of science and technology, history of science and technology, history of Marxist philosophy, history of China philosophy, history of western philosophy, modern foreign philosophy, modern philosophy of China, introduction of Chinese and foreign original works of philosophy, selected readings of original works of Marxist philosophy, theory and practice of social investigation; It also offers courses in foreign languages, computer application, law, political economy, contemporary world politics and economy.

Philosophy majors train high-level talents engaged in philosophy research and teaching, party and government, news propaganda and policy research, and at the same time, they also provide innovative and enterprising high-quality management talents for party and government departments and industrial and commercial enterprises. Undergraduate graduates can study for a master's degree in related majors without examination or pass the examination, or engage in management, secretarial and other work in party and government departments at all levels and cultural news propaganda departments, or engage in teaching philosophy or related disciplines in colleges and universities, or engage in management, planning, secretarial, public relations and marketing in industrial and commercial enterprises. The graduates of philosophy department are all over the world, many of whom have become famous professors, researchers, publishers, middle and senior leading cadres and business elites at home and abroad.

The main courses in the direction class of Sinology are: Introduction to Sinology, General Theory of Confucian Classics, General History of China, History of Philosophy of China, Cultural History of China, Phonology and Exegesis of Characters, Edition Catalogue and Collation, Study of the Book of Songs, Study of the Four Books, Study of the Book of Changes, Study of Laozi and Zhuangzi, Study of Zuo Zhuan, Study of Historical Records, and Study of Historical Records.

Through the systematic education of China's traditional academic culture, Sinology Class cultivates professionals who are proficient in basic classics, basic knowledge and modern knowledge system of Sinology, have good humanistic quality and high academic level, and can engage in Sinology research, teaching, cultural exchange, cultural relics management and my publishing in scientific research units, universities and government departments. Those with excellent grades can directly study for master's degree without examination and become backup candidates for undergraduate, master's and doctoral studies.
