1950, Japan rebuilt its army, and by 1954, it had built land self-defense forces, maritime self-defense forces and air self-defense forces. The reconstructed Japanese military ranks are divided into two categories: cadres and Cao Shi. The ranks of cadres include generals, assistants and junior officers. Divide officials into one, two and two. One is equivalent to a general, two to a lieutenant general and one to a major general. Assistant officers are called First Assistant (Colonel), Second Assistant (Lieutenant Colonel) and Third Assistant (Major). Junior officers are called captains, second lieutenants and third lieutenants. Cao Shi is called the First Cao (Staff Sergeant), the Second Cao (Sergeant), the Third Cao (Corporal), the Chief Sergeant (First Class), the First Class (First Class), the Second Class (Second Class) and the Third Class (Third Class).
The new Japanese army added a warrant officer in 1970 and a sergeant major in 1980.
Shaozuo is equivalent to a major, not a low rank.
