There is a global 6G research boom, and many countries want to take this opportunity to overtake others.

Author | Supernova Finance Editor | Ray Although China has surpassed itself in 5G technology, reality does not allow us to stop and celebrate. Currently, the research and development of global 6G communication technology has begun to catch up with each other.

On December 13, Li Deren, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and professor of Wuhan University, said at a forum that the Chinese are ahead in 5G, but Americans are still ahead of us in 6G communications in the sky, and we cannot be careless.

According to Academician Li’s description, 5G is only used in 6% of the earth’s surface. Therefore, we must seize 6G and integrate land, sea, and air through satellite Internet, satellite mobile networks, and terrestrial 5G to achieve ubiquitous mobility in the sky, earth, and sea.

Communication, high-speed communication everywhere in the world.

It can be seen that Americans have recognized the reality. Since they are completely behind in the 5G era, they will overtake in 6G technology.

6G, the sixth generation mobile communication standard, is a conceptual wireless network mobile communication technology, also known as the sixth generation mobile communication technology.

The main promotion is the development of the Internet.

Market comments believe that the 6G network will be a fully connected world integrating terrestrial wireless and satellite communications.

By integrating satellite communications into 6G mobile communications, seamless global coverage is achieved. Network signals can reach any remote village, allowing patients in remote mountainous areas to receive telemedicine and children to receive remote education.

In addition, with the linkage support of the global satellite positioning system, telecommunications satellite system, earth image satellite system and 6G ground network, the full coverage network of ground and air can also help humans predict weather and quickly respond to natural disasters.

This is the 6G future.

6G communication technology is no longer a simple breakthrough in network capacity and transmission rate. It is also about narrowing the digital divide and realizing the "ultimate goal" of interconnecting everything. This is the meaning of 6G.

The data transmission rate of 6G may reach 50 times that of 5G, and the latency is shortened to one-tenth of 5G. It is far superior to 6G in terms of peak rate, latency, traffic density, connection density, mobility, spectrum efficiency, positioning capabilities, etc.

5G.

It is also understood that the biggest difference between 5G and 6G networks is that 5G uses meter wave frequencies, while 6G uses terahertz frequencies, and the "densification" of the 6G network will also reach an unprecedented level, from communications

From 1G (0.9GHz) to 4G (above 1.8GHZ), the frequency of the radio electromagnetic waves we use is constantly increasing.

The terahertz frequency band of 6G will reach 100GHz-10THz, which is a frequency band much higher than that of 5G.

Regarding 6G research, China’s progress is not inferior to that of the world.

In March 2018, Miao Wei, Minister of Industry and Information Technology, stated that China had begun research on 6G.

Since then, China has launched 6G-related technology research from top to bottom.

Last year, the Ministry of Science and Technology, together with the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Natural Science Foundation of China, organized a launch meeting for 6G technology research and development work in Beijing.

The meeting announced the establishment of a national 6G technology research and development promotion working group and a national 6G technology research and development overall expert group.

China Unicom and China Telecom have also launched 6G-related technology research respectively.

In November 2020, BUPT's 6G project received key special funding from the 2020 National Key Research and Development Plan "Broadband Communications and New Networks".

According to a recent report from Global Network, my country's first 6G communication test satellite was successfully launched from the Taiyuan launch base in Shanxi.

The successful launch of this test satellite means that China has officially embarked on the 6G network track.

Although the research craze for 6G has already begun, there is still a long way to go to truly achieve scale. Huawei's Yu Chengdong said that 6G is still under development and is estimated to take another 10 years. It is also currently doing technical research and standard research.

It has not reached the commercial stage yet.

Zhu Hongbo, chairman of the Communications Branch of the China Electronics Society and dean of the School of Internet of Things at Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, said that the specific application direction of 6G is still in the exploratory stage.

According to media reports, the United States has long seen the value of 6G. Qualcomm and Microsoft of the United States, Samsung of South Korea and Nokia of Finland formed a technology alliance dedicated to jointly developing 6G networks as early as October 19.

At the same time, American companies are actively investing in Ericsson, which shows that the competition around 6G has already begun.

Among them, Finland began researching 6G-related technologies in 2018.

On March 15, 2019, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) unanimously voted to open the "terahertz wave" spectrum in the hope that it will one day be used for 6G services.
