Zhengzhou Institute of Light Industry, located in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province, is a characteristic backbone university in Henan Province, which is jointly established by the central and local governments and mainly managed by local governments. The school has scientific campus, Dongfeng campus and Yuzhou practice training base, covering an area of more than 2,200 mu.
The school was founded in 1977, then named Zhengzhou Institute of Light Industry, which was originally under the Ministry of Light Industry. 1998 was transferred to the people's government of Henan province and approved as a master's degree-granting unit in the same year; 20 1 1 became a university established by the Henan Provincial People's Government and the State Tobacco Monopoly Bureau; 20 18 was renamed Zhengzhou Institute of Light Industry with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

The school has two authorized points for doctoral degrees in first-class disciplines, 15 authorized points for master's degrees in first-class disciplines,10 authorized points for master's degrees in two disciplines, and 15 authorized categories for professional master's degrees.

The school has more than 2,200 faculty members, and employs 5 academicians as discipline strategic scientists.
