The School of Life Sciences has 22 professors and 20 doctoral supervisors. Among them, academician 1 person, distinguished professor, the Yangtze River Program of the Ministry of Education, Hundred Talents Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences1person, 7 winners of Class A of the Outstanding Youth Fund and 3 winners of Class B of the Outstanding Youth Fund.
The College of Life Sciences of the University of Science and Technology of China has implemented the "985 Project" and "21kloc-0/Project" of the Ministry of Education (the sub-projects of "protein Network and Cell Activities" and "Support Platform for Life Science and Technology"), and the knowledge innovation project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has been included in the key construction contents.
The College of Life Sciences enrolls about 100 undergraduates every year. The academic system is 4 years, including 3 years of course study, graduation thesis and practice 1 year. Undergraduate teaching includes five stages: basic courses in school, basic courses in biology, specialized courses in biology, elective courses and graduation thesis training.
By the end of 2009, four graduate students from School of Life Sciences had been selected as "Excellent Doctoral Dissertations of China Academy of Sciences" and three as "Top 100 Excellent Doctoral Dissertations in China".
The College of Life Sciences has established the "Biological Field Teaching Practice Base" in Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden of China Academy of Sciences and the "Wetland Ecology and Biodiversity Field Teaching Practice Base" in Jinshenghu Nature Reserve.
From 1977 to 2000, the College of Life Sciences enrolled more than 65,438 undergraduates and 380 postgraduates.
