College of Earth Sciences and Resources

The School of Earth Science and Resources was founded in 1952. It is one of the colleges with the longest history and the strongest faculty at China University of Geosciences. It was formerly the Department of Mineral Geology and General Survey and Exploration (major department) of Beijing Institute of Geology. . In 1991, the Department of Geology and Mineral Resources was merged to form the Department of Geology and Mineral Resources, which was composed of the first department, the second department, the third department, the central laboratory, and the Geological History Laboratory. In 1999, it was renamed to its current name. In the course of 60 years of ups and downs, the college has formed a good trend of attaching importance to teaching, advocating science, seeking truth and pragmatism, and pursuing excellence. The college has a group of highly respected geoscience masters: Academician Zhao Pengda, Academician Yu Chongwen, Academician Zhai Yusheng, Academician Zhang Benren, Academician Jin Zhenmin, Academician Mo Xuanyuan, and Academician Gao Shan. Over the past 60 years, the college has trained a large number of senior talents, including more than 20 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Many outstanding graduates have become scientific and technological backbones, education experts and management experts, and some have also served as leaders of the party and national government departments.

At present, the college has 142 faculty members, including 62 professors and 34 associate professors (including 61 doctoral supervisors). There are 48 external part-time doctoral supervisors. 80% of the teaching staff have doctoral degrees and 12.5% ??have master's degrees. A group of young academic leaders are growing. Among them are winners of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, winners of the Cross-Century Talent Fund of the Ministry of Education, and winners of the Cross-Century Talent Fund of the Ministry of Land and Resources. There are young subject leaders and outstanding talents in Beijing universities. Young key teachers. There is one national-level outstanding teacher, one national-level famous teaching teacher, and six Beijing famous teaching teachers. One outstanding innovation team from the Ministry of Education.

In order to meet the needs of the reform of the education system and science and technology system under the conditions of the socialist market economy, the School of Geosciences has initially established a discipline and professional system with geology and resources as the main features, science as the mainstay, and a combination of science and engineering. The college currently has paleontology and stratigraphy (including paleoanthropology), geochemistry, mineralogy, petrology, mineral deposits, structural geology, Quaternary geology, mineral survey and exploration, earth exploration and information technology, and cartography. 18 disciplines including science and geographical information engineering, photogrammetry and remote sensing. Among them, five disciplines: paleontology and stratigraphy (including paleoanthropology), geochemistry, mineralogy, petrology, mineral deposits, mineral survey and exploration, and structural geology are national key disciplines; Quaternary geology, cartography The two disciplines of science and geographic information engineering are provincial and ministerial key disciplines. There are three majors for undergraduate enrollment: geology, geochemistry, and resource exploration engineering (solid minerals). There are 7 teaching and research offices under the college: Stratigraphic Paleontology Teaching and Research Office, Structural Geology Teaching and Research Office, Geochemistry Teaching and Research Office, Mineral and Rock Teaching and Research Office, Mineral Deposits and Exploration Teaching and Research Office, Remote Sensing and Geoscience Information Teaching and Research Office, and Quaternary Teaching and Research Office.

The School of Geosciences has three postdoctoral mobile stations in geology, geological resources and geological engineering. The college recruits doctoral and master's degree students in 16 disciplines and 150 research directions. In addition, according to the overall plan of the "211 Project" of China University of Geosciences (Beijing), taking overall consideration of discipline construction, high-level talent training, and supporting construction of key laboratories, the school strategically focuses on the development of geodynamics and global event exploration and evaluation and geoscience. Information 3 subject groups. The college currently has 3,994 students enrolled. Among them, there are 728 doctoral students, 1,329 master's students, 723 engineering master's students, and 1,214 undergraduate students.

The School of Earth Sciences is engaged in geodynamics, earth rhythms and global geological events, rock probes and deep processes, genetic mineralogy and prospecting mineralogy, mineralization systems and regional mineralization, and non-traditional mineral resources. Discovery and development, complexity of geological systems, geochemical dynamics and orogenic belt research are already among the leading domestic and internationally advanced areas. In recent years, teachers of the college have undertaken the national “973” project, “863” project, science and technology public relations projects, natural science foundation projects, etc., and published more than 50 articles in the three major search engines during the year.

The School of Geosciences currently has 1 Beijing Basic Geoscience Experimental Teaching Center, geochemistry laboratory (including fluid inclusion laboratory, atomic absorption laboratory, chemical processing room and instrument room), remote sensing and geoscience information technology Laboratories (Geoscience Information Technology Laboratory and Remote Sensing Laboratory), Quaternary Ecological Environment Laboratory, Resource Exploration Engineering Laboratory (including Mineralogy and Mineralogy Laboratory, Geology Laboratory and Resource Exploration and Evaluation Digital Laboratory) .

In recent years, the School of Geosciences has carried out multi-level international academic and scientific research exchanges. It conducts transnational geological internships for undergraduates, study abroad and academic exchanges for graduate students every year, selects young teachers to go abroad for further study and scientific research cooperation, and introduces many Internationally renowned professors teach geology courses for undergraduate and graduate students. The college has organized and held many international academic conferences and many resource engineering training courses for African countries.

In order to strengthen the cultivation of students' practical ability, and by taking advantage of the rich geological phenomena in the Xishan Mountains of Beijing, we have established a field internship system between classes for professional main courses, Beidaihe geological field understanding internship (2 weeks), and Zhoukoudian field teaching internship (6 weeks). ), transnational and cross-regional internships in international field teaching (2 weeks), multiple industry-university-research bases have been established (Shandong Zhaoyuan Gold Mine Base, Gansu Yangshan Gold Mine Base, Yunnan Yunming Enterprise Base, Henan Yuntai Mountain Base , Tibet Regional Geological Survey Base, Inner Mongolia Mining Base, Heilongjiang Mudanjiang Gold Mine Base, Shandong Quanxing Mining Company Base, etc.).

In the future, the School of Geosciences will adhere to the school-running philosophy of “characteristics plus high-quality products” and the socialist school-running direction of “facing modernization, facing the world, and facing the future”. In terms of talent training, we will cultivate high-level talents in geosciences. With the purpose of cultivating multi-faceted talents that adapt to the development of the socialist market economy, we will develop geological characteristics and create high-quality talents. In terms of scientific research, we strive to undertake major national and provincial scientific research projects, actively participate in the construction of major national engineering projects, and actively serve the local economy and industry economic construction. Based on the frontiers of earth science, strengthen infrastructure construction, highlight the characteristics of modern earth science, expand the fields of earth science research and services, produce high-quality talents, and produce high-level landmark results.
