The origin of health express train
According to the statistics of the Ministry of Health, there are about 4 million cataract patients in China, and there are as many as 400,000 new cases every year. Cataract is an senile disease, but acquired injury and congenital factors may also lead to cataract. In remote and poor rural areas, the proportion of young and middle-aged people and children suffering from cataract is much higher than that in cities because of poor sanitary conditions, more manual labor and weak eugenic consciousness. More than half of cataract patients live in remote areas. Because of poverty and other reasons, they can not get timely treatment. They have lived in darkness for a long time and are in urgent need of help.

From 65438 to 0997, Hong Kong returned to the motherland, and Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa presented the first "Health Express" to the mainland people on behalf of 6.7 million Hong Kong compatriots. Later, the second and third "healthy through train" were presented to the mainland in 1999 and 2002 respectively. It is a mobile charity eye hospital built on the train, equipped with world-class ophthalmic medical equipment. The Health Express Management Committee consists of the heads of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Railways and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council. Excellent ophthalmologists are selected by the Ministry of Health to get on the bus and treat poor farmers suffering from cataracts free of charge. The Health Express is funded by the Hong Kong Health Express Foundation and the China Health Express Foundation.

Since the operation of "Health Express" in July, 1997 has reached 53 regions in 20 provinces across the country, and nearly 50,000 poor cataract patients have been given free sight-seeing surgery, which has enabled them to see again. Many patients have recovered their ability to work and embarked on the road of getting rid of poverty and living a better life. Wherever the "health express" went, it was praised by the broad masses of the people and was known as the "messenger of light". Relevant leaders of the State Council participated in the Health Express for many times, and affirmed the work of the Health Express, hoping that the whole society would care for and support the Health Express.

"Health Express" is a specially designed and well-equipped eye train hospital sponsored by Hong Kong entrepreneurs and ordinary citizens. It entered the remote rural areas in the mainland and operated on cataract patients for free. 1997 "Health Express" was born with the return of Hong Kong to the motherland. Three "health through trains" were loaded with the love of 6.7 million Hong Kong compatriots and the selfless dedication of mainland medical staff, and operated on more than 27,000 cataract patients in 30 regions including Anhui, Sichuan, Guangxi, Gansu, Qinghai, Zhejiang, Guizhou, Hubei, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Hebei, Chongqing, Guangdong and Fujian for free. Many patients have embarked on the road of poverty alleviation because they have gained the ability to work. The "Health Express" also trains ophthalmologists from all over the country to improve the local ophthalmology medical care and nursing level. The local government praised the "Health Express" as the messenger of love and light, and the cured patients were in tears, and sincerely thanked the donors for their kindness!

In order to better carry out this righteous act for the benefit of the people, the mainland established the "China Health Express Foundation". This move has received the care and support of former Prime Minister Zhu Rongji and the guidance of Vice Premier Li Lanqing. In the reply, the leader asked that this work be included in several practical things for the countryside.

In the process of preparation and establishment, China Health Express Foundation received strong support from the State Council and relevant departments. In 2002, the Ministry of Civil Affairs officially approved the establishment of "China Health Express Foundation". The Fund is chaired by Jing Shuping, vice chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and served as vice chairman, consultant and executive director by the main leaders of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the United Front Work Department, the Central Enterprise Working Committee, the Central Financial Working Committee, the Ministry of Railways, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Economic Relations and Trade and the Council for the Promotion of International Trade. Since then, the "Health Express" can raise funds for the mainland and provide more favorable conditions for the development and growth of the "Health Express". This charity has a long way to go and needs people from Hong Kong and the Mainland to join this meaningful cause.

The "Health Express" has three trains in China, each consisting of a conference-cum-generator car, two camping cars and an operation car, all of which are produced by Beijing West Depot and donated by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. One train is 120km/h, all of which are single-decker cars, the other two trains are 160km/h, and the camper car is double-decker.
