In 2002, Zhou Haiying, the only son of Lu Xun and a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, established the Shanghai Lu Xun Cultural Development Center, and in 2004, he founded the only "Lu Xun Youth Literature Award" authorized by Lu Xun's family. In order to expand its scale and influence, in 2009, Shanghai Luxun Cultural Development Center, Shanghai Education Publishing House, Shanghai Preschool Teacher Award Foundation, China Children's Newspaper Association and other institutions jointly hosted this literary creation selection activity for young people.

The purpose of this award and activity is to "respect the mother tongue, learn Chinese, think independently and cultivate resilience".
