The National Natural Science Foundation of China is a directly affiliated institution in the State Council. According to the national principles, policies and plans for the development of science and technology, the National Natural Science Foundation will be effectively used to support basic research, adhere to free exploration, play a guiding role, discover and cultivate scientific and technical talents, and promote scientific and technological progress and coordinated economic and social development.

● Formulate and implement funding plans to support basic research and train scientific and technical talents, accept project applications, organize expert review, manage funded projects, promote the effective allocation of scientific research resources, and create a favorable environment for innovation;

● Cooperate with the national administrative department of science and technology to formulate the principles, policies and plans for the development of basic research in the country, and provide advice on major issues concerning the development of science and technology in the country;

● Accept the entrustment of the State Council and relevant departments to carry out relevant work and cooperate with relevant institutions to carry out funding activities;

● Establish contacts and carry out international cooperation with government departments of science and technology, funding institutions and academic organizations in other countries or regions;

● Support the work of other domestic science funds;

● To undertake other tasks assigned by the State Council.
