yang-en university is the first private university in China with the qualification of issuing national undergraduate diploma and awarding bachelor's degree.

The school was founded in 1987 by the Yang En Foundation established by Mr. Wu Qingxing, a patriotic overseas Chinese, and his family, and approved by the State Education Commission as a full-time ordinary institution of higher learning. It was run by Fujian provincial government in 1988. In July, 1994, yang-en university was independently run by Yang En Foundation.

The emblem of yang-en university was designed and drawn by Wu Qingxing, chairman of Yang 'en Fund, in 1988, and its pattern is Xian'gong Mountain, the highest peak in the northern suburb of Quanzhou, a famous historical and cultural city in China. Xian'gong Mountain, commonly known as Shuangji Mountain, is also called Bijia Mountain because it looks like a penholder used in ancient writing.
