Since the founding of New China, especially since the reform and opening up, the Party Central Committee and the State Council have attached great importance to the protection of intangible cultural heritage and formulated a series of guidelines and policies. my country's intangible cultural heritage protection work has achieved remarkable results.

However, with the deepening of globalization, the acceleration of China's social transformation process, and the rapid development of high technology, my country's intangible cultural heritage is increasingly impacted by modern lifestyles. Some cultural heritage that relies on oral transmission and personal inheritance continue to disappear, and many Traditional skills are in danger of becoming extinct, and a large number of precious objects with historical, literary, artistic, and scientific value have been destroyed.

Establishing relevant systems through legislation to provide strong support for the protection of intangible cultural heritage has become an urgent need of the times.

Since 1998, the National People's Congress, the Ministry of Culture and other relevant departments have begun special research on the protection of intangible cultural heritage.

Under the strong leadership of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, with the joint efforts of the National People's Congress, the Legislative Affairs Office of the State Council, the Ministry of Culture and other departments, and with the strong support of all sectors of society, the Intangible Cultural Heritage Law was finally passed on February 25, 2011.

It was reviewed and approved by the 19th Session of the National People's Congress and will soon come into effect.

It conforms to the development trend of the times and responds to the people's eager expectations. It marks that the protection of my country's intangible cultural heritage is about to embark on the legal track and enter a new historical stage.
