Why can only South Korea produce large-size organic light-emitting diodes?
Today, the display industry has ushered in a new turning point. At present, organic light-emitting diodes have been recognized as the best revolutionary technology to replace LCD. At present, this technology is still dominated by Korean manufacturers, and China has to face a transformation situation when the LCD industry chain is just mature.
The popularity of organic light-emitting diodes exceeded everyone's expectations.
At present, the price of OLED TV has dropped to 9999 yuan.
According to AVC monitoring data, from June to July in 20 17, the global OLED TV shipments increased by 9 1. 1% compared with that in 20 16, among which the OLED TV shipments in China market increased by 109.7% year-on-year, and the market prospect is worth looking forward to. At the same time, in this year's American Black Five, the sales volume of OLED TVs increased by 2-3 times compared with last year. The price of 65-inch TVs was 3,000 US dollars, the proportion of OLED TVs was over 84%, and the price of 55-inch TVs was 2,000 US dollars, and the proportion of OLED TVs was over 90%.
China and Japan "catch up" with the layout of large-size OLED panels
Led by LG Display, BOE, a mainland panel factory, also invested10 billion yuan to build an OLED panel factory in the first half of this year, and JDI, a Japanese panel factory, also jointly developed and produced OLED panels with JOLED. However, both BOE and JOLED are small and medium-sized OLED panels that can be mass-produced. BOE mainly focuses on organic light-emitting diode panels in the field of mobile phones, and JOLED mainly develops "printed" organic light-emitting diode panels for medical applications. As for large-size TV OLED panels, at present, except LG Display, mass production can be realized, and other large panel factories are catching up with the layout.
The lineup of organic light-emitting diodes is strong enough.
There is no doubt that OLED TV has begun to occupy the high-end TV market, and its lineup is also expanding. In addition to its own brand LG, China manufacturers Skyworth, Konka and Changhong also launched OLED TVs on high-end products. Philips, Metz, Grundig, Vestel and Olufsen in Europe also take their OLED TVs as their flagship models.
More and more TV manufacturers have joined the OLED camp.
The most exciting news for the OLED industry is that Sony officially returned to the embrace of OLED at the beginning of this year, and it is expected that it will continue to launch new OLED TV products next year. In addition to Sony in Japan, Panasonic and Toshiba are also trying to launch OLED TVs. It can be said that OLED technology has been widely recognized by the industry, and everyone knows that this technology will definitely eliminate LCD.
Who will be the next China manufacturer to join the OLED camp?
Last month, Hisense officially acquired Toshiba Image Solutions, and we seem to see some clues from it. As a market leader in China, Hisense has also achieved fruitful results in the international market. At this time, Hisense TV, which has become bigger and stronger, chose to buy Toshiba TV with heavy money, undoubtedly in order to seek strategic change. Hisense is likely to be ready to enter the field of OLED TV.
Hisense officially acquired Toshiba TV on 20171014.
As a traditional TV power, Japan has always had core R&D capabilities in terms of image quality. Both Sony and Toshiba have image quality chips for OLED panels. Among them, Toshiba adopted the unique organic light-emitting diode Engine Beauty Pro image quality engine technology and the well-known super-resolution technology, which fully guaranteed the image quality. For Hisense, which has not been in the team, organic light-emitting diodes are ready-made technologies after acquiring Toshiba.
Toshiba OLED TV
Up to now, the top five TV manufacturers in China have three OLED teams, and Hisense is likely to launch OLED TVs next year. It is believed that before long, the whole TV market will enter the era of organic light-emitting diodes dominated by LG Display.
Opportunities are always reserved for those who are prepared
In 2007, Sony introduced the world's first OLED TV. However, due to the immaturity of technology and the bottleneck of manufacturing process, the mass production of large-size OLED TVs is very difficult, and Sony finally chose to give up. Until 20 13, LG Display successfully mass-produced large-size organic light-emitting diode panels, which also helped LG release the first 55-inch OLED TV in China, and finally let this technology enter the consumer market.
After unremitting efforts, LG Display has finally successfully mass-produced large-size OLED panels.
In fact, organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) have not been favored since their birth. Since Sony abandoned this technology, it is generally believed in the industry that it is impossible to produce large-size OLEDs, and it cannot be overcome without 10 years. However, LG Display still hasn't stopped moving forward, and has overcome difficulties in manufacturing technology and large size, knowing that it can't be done. This is the spirit of LG Display to overcome large-size organic light-emitting diodes. At present, the maximum size of OLED TV has risen to 77 inches, and it is reported that it will continue to expand to 88 inches next year.
Maybe what we lack is just a spirit.
Looking back on the display industry in the past decade, it seems that China has been playing the role of follower. Whether it is CRT, plasma, rear projection, LCD or current OLED TV, it has long relied on technology reference and panel import, but it has been at a disadvantage in independent research and development of core display technology. It is said that whether a country is strong or not ultimately depends on technological innovation, and technological backwardness will undoubtedly be subject to people.
Maybe what we lack is just a craftsman spirit.
A few days ago, the author visited the LG display factory in South Korea. In the process of communicating with their technicians, you can see an R&D staff showing their enthusiasm and persistence in technology. Every OLED product is like a treasure, which reminds me of the word craftsman spirit. Perhaps, we have been relatively backward in the field of monitors. What we lack is not the accumulation of technology, but the spirit of making technology the ultimate regardless of utility and time.
