Huazhong University of Science and Technology is a key comprehensive university directly under the Ministry of Education. On May 26th, 2000, it was formed by the merger of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Tongji Medical University and Wuhan Institute of Urban Construction. In the fourth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education, 44 disciplines participated in the evaluation, all of which were on the list, including mechanical engineering, optical engineering, biomedical engineering, public health and preventive medicine. Among them, it entered A+, A 14 disciplines and B+ and above 33 disciplines. Nine disciplines were selected as the second round of "double first-class" construction disciplines in China.
