Invited to participate in an important international academic conference on public diplomacy

On October 8, 2012, Dr. Zhou Xinyu, a researcher at the Public Diplomacy Research Center, was invited to South Korea to attend a conference themed “Let Public Diplomacy "Function" international academic symposium. The seminar was co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of South Korea and the Asan Foundation***. Senior diplomatic officials such as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Director of the Department of Culture, and Ambassador of Corporate Diplomacy of South Korea, as well as senior diplomatic officials from the Center for Public Diplomacy at the University of Southern California, Tufts University (the birthplace of the subject of corporate diplomacy in the United States), and Beijing Scholars from the Public Diplomacy Research Center of the University of Foreign Studies and other academic institutions discussed issues such as the goals, functions, and roles of governments and non-governmental organizations in public diplomacy.

As the only Chinese scholar attending the seminar, Dr. Zhou Xinyu gave an English speech on "China's Public Diplomacy: Development and Challenges" at the seminar. In his speech, he introduced the development of China's public diplomacy in recent years and analyzed the challenges faced by the Chinese government in public diplomacy. The content of his speech attracted international public diplomacy scholars’ understanding and attention to China’s issues.

Invited by Tencent to host a series of talk shows

At noon on May 1, 2011, U.S. President Obama announced that the U.S. military had killed terrorist leader Osama bin Laden. The news aroused huge public attention . Dr. Zhou Xinyu from Beijing Foreign Studies University’s Center for Public Diplomacy was invited by Tencent on the afternoon of that day and the morning of the next day to host a series of interview programs on the death of bin Laden. Together with Professor Yin Gang from the Institute of West Asian and North African Studies at the Academy of Social Sciences, Professor Zhang Guoqing from the Institute of American Studies at the Academy of Social Sciences, Professor Peng Guangqian from the China Policy Science Society, Professor Shi Yinhong from Renmin University of China, and Professor Li Shaoxian from the China Institute of Contemporary International Relations Professor Zhu Feng, deputy director of the Center for International Strategic Studies at Peking University, discussed the international political consequences of bin Laden's death. The program attracted a wide audience.
