1982, graduated from the Department of Mathematics of Wuhan University. From 65438 to 0992, Shanguang Chen served as the deputy chief designer of the astronaut system of China's manned spaceflight project.

In 2004, he became the commander-in-chief and chief designer of China manned space astronaut system, and was responsible for and participated in the whole development process of China manned space astronaut system. In 2005, he was named the fourth outstanding alumnus of Wuhan University.
