Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation is an important economic cooperation forum in the Asia-Pacific region and the highest-level intergovernmental economic cooperation mechanism in the Asia-Pacific region.
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, referred to as Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), was founded in 1989. As of April 2023, APEC has 21 official members and three observers, and its official advisory body is the Alliance of Pacific Rim Universities.
The purpose of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation is to promote the process of economic exchanges and cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region through dialogue and cooperation, and to achieve common prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region.
Through these meetings, members can have in-depth exchanges and discussions on economic, trade, investment and other issues, and jointly formulate and implement relevant policies and measures.
In addition, APEC also actively promotes the regional integration process, for example, by simplifying trade procedures, lowering trade barriers, promoting trade and investment liberalization and other measures to promote economic integration in the Asia-Pacific region.
At the same time, APEC also pays attention to environmental protection, human resources development, technological innovation and other issues, and strives to promote sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region.
Features of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation: 1. Trade and investment liberalization: APEC is committed to promoting trade and investment liberalization and promoting economic growth and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region.
Through various cooperation projects and initiatives, APEC strives to reduce tariff and non-tariff barriers and promote trade and investment facilitation.
2. Informal dialogue mechanism: APEC adopts an informal dialogue mechanism, the APEC method, which emphasizes equality, mutual benefit, mutual respect and openness.
This approach promotes dialogue and consultation among economies, helps solve complex economic problems and promotes cooperation.
3. The principle of independence and voluntariness: APEC adheres to the principle of independence and voluntariness, and each economy can choose to participate in cooperation projects based on its own national conditions and capabilities.
This flexibility enables APEC to better adapt to the development needs and interest concerns of different economies.
