In November 1979, the 20th Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Conference decided to designate October 16, 1981 as the first World Food Day.

From now on, this day will be regarded as "World Food Day" every year and relevant activities will be held in the member countries of the organization to arouse the world's great attention to the development of food and agricultural production.
