On March 25, 2005, Juventus announced that they had signed a contract with the Libyan oil company TAMOIL. The Gaddafi company's trademark will appear on the chest of Juventus' jerseys starting in June 2005. . In the 2004-05 season, Italian Sky TV sponsored Juventus for 13 million euros and obtained the league jersey chest trademark rights, while TAMOIL became the jersey sponsor of the Italian Cup and the UEFA Champions League for 5.5 million euros. However, the contract with Sky Italia was about to expire in June 2005. TAMOIL seized the opportunity to buy the chest advertising rights for the next five years, including Serie A, Italian Cup and Champions League, with a sponsorship amount of up to 110 million euros. There is also an option to extend the contract for another five years after five years, at which time the sponsorship fee will be further increased to 130 million euros.
In the next five years, TAMOIL will sponsor Juventus for 22 million euros per year. This deal ranks first in Europe. Bayern is sponsored by Deutsche Telekom for 17 million euros per year, Siemens sponsors Real Madrid for 14 million euros per year, and Vodafone sponsors Manchester United for 13 million euros. In Italy, AC Milan ranks behind Juventus. Opel sponsors 12 million euros per year, and Pirelli Tires and Mazda sponsor Inter Milan and Roma for 8 million euros each year. There are far fewer "poor teams" in Serie A. Toyota sponsors Fiorentina for 3.5 million euros per year, while Lazio only receives 2.3 million euros from Parma Cotton Company per year.
