In Jinyang County on the eastern edge of Daliang Mountain, there is a special flock of birds - Jinyang silk-feathered chickens. This kind of chicken is small in size, matures early, and has fresh meat. It is deeply loved by consumers and is the only "thousand-year rare bird" in Daliangshan in the country.

Jinyang silk-feather chicken is mainly produced in Jinyang County. It is recorded among the Yi people that the breeding history of Jinyang silk-feathered chickens has been more than a thousand years. During the period of slave society, the Yi people regarded it as a rare bird, and a silk-feathered chicken was worth as much as a sheep during sacrifices.

Because the Jinyang silk-feathered chicken has not been discovered for a long time, it has not been selectively bred, purified and effectively protected. It has been left to fend for itself and its number has become very rare. In 1979, during the survey of livestock and poultry resources in Sichuan Province, it was listed as a rare poultry breed. In 1987, it was included in the "Sichuan Provincial Livestock and Poultry Breeds". In 2006, Jinyang Silky Chicken was included in the "National Livestock and Poultry Breeds". List of Genetic Resources Protection" (Announcement No. 662 of the Ministry of Agriculture), and was continued to be included in the "Sichuan Province Livestock and Poultry Genetic Resources" in March 2007.

Jinyang silk-feathered chicken is a meat and egg type, with excellent properties such as fast growth, early maturity, good meat quality, strong foraging ability and strong disease resistance. Jinyang Si Mao Chicken has a unique flavor and high nutritional value. According to the Sichuan Provincial Institute of Animal Science, eggs are rich in crude protein and crude fat of 12.9% and 10.8% respectively; the total amino acid content reaches 12.5%; chicken contains 22.9% crude protein and 1.1% crude fat, and the total amino acid content is 21.5%, high content of essential amino acids for human body, glutamic acid accounts for 3.77% of the total amino acids in chicken. It has high nutritional value and health care effects and is delicious.

In 1984, the Jinyang Silky Chicken was a special rare bird in Jinyang County. The County Animal Husbandry Bureau purchased 38 Jinyang Silky Chickens from rural areas for breeding without any financial support. By the peak period in 1995, there were more than 300 Jinyang Silky Chickens in the county Animal Husbandry Bureau’s breeding farm. Later, due to a shortage of funds, coupled with the influence of geographical environment and other factors, it was difficult to carry out large-scale development and the Jinyang Silky Chickens were cancelled. A survey in 2005 showed that there were only 225 Jinyang silk-feathered chickens in existence, and they were on the verge of extinction. In 2006, the County Animal Husbandry Bureau urgently purchased 62 Jinyang silk-feathered chickens for breeding at the county livestock and poultry breeding farm due to a shortage of funds, and carried out rescue breeding conservation. So far, more than 1,000 chickens have been bred. At present, there are more than 8,600 Jinyang Silky Chickens in the county, mainly distributed in 24 towns and villages above 1,600 meters above sea level in the county.

In 2011, Jinyang County applied for geographical trademark registration with the State Administration for Industry and Commerce. This year, in order to protect the special product of Jinyang Silky Feather Chicken, the application for geographical indication product protection is being carried out. In order to build the brand of special agricultural products "Daliangshan·Jinyang Silky Chicken" and enhance its popularity, a brochure and packaging box were produced and included in the special agricultural products exhibited at the West China Expo.
