Trademark inquiry
Before applying for a trademark, the first thing to do is trademark inquiry. As shown in the following figure, the British Trademark Office can conduct trademark inquiry through three inquiry methods: trademark number, applicant, keyword, phrase or picture.
trademarks that have been submitted or registered successfully can be queried in the first two ways.
the third query method is commonly used for newly applied trademarks.
application route
You can apply for a British trademark online or send paper documents directly to the British Trademark Office, but there is a fee reduction for online application, so most people will choose to submit their applications online directly.
registration process
submit an application → wait for review → register announcement → issue a certificate
① After submitting an application for a British trademark, the official will review it within 2 days and feed back the review results. If there is any review opinion, the applicant needs to reply within 2 months.
② If the examiner has no objection to the trademark application, the trademark will enter the announcement period for 2 months.
★ If the examiner finds a registered trademark similar to the applied trademark during the examination, he will contact the registered trademark holder, and the holder will decide whether to object to the applied trademark.
Due to the short review time in the UK, it usually takes only three to five months for a trademark to be applied for and issued.
