What is Soncap certification? Which products need Soncap certification?
In order to ensure that the controlled products meet the technical standards approved by the country or other international standards, and to protect Nigerian consumers from unsafe products or substandard products, the National Bureau of Standards of Nigeria has decided to implement a compulsory pre-shipment conformity assessment procedure (hereinafter referred to as SONCAP) for the controlled products exported to the country. SONCAP consists of two stages. The first stage, called "product certification", is only applicable to the first export of certain controlled products to Nigeria. Exporters who have passed the product certification can obtain a "product certificate", which can be valid for up to three years. The second stage is called "Nigeria National Bureau of Standards Compulsory Conformity Assessment Procedure Certification" (hereinafter referred to as SONCAP Certification), which is applicable to a certain batch of goods before shipment. Both of the above certifications are handled in the office of the National Bureau of Standards of Nigeria, the exporting country.

SONCAP certificate is a legal and necessary document for customs clearance of controlled products in Nigeria. Lack of SONCAP certificate will delay the customs clearance of controlled products or refuse to enter Nigeria's domestic market. It is particularly important to note that SONCAP is applicable to controlled products, and other import procedures stipulated by the Nigerian government are still valid.

2. Certification purpose

1. Ensure that the controlled products exported to Nigeria and entering its market meet the relevant provisions of Nigerian industrial standards;

2. Ensure a quality platform for imported goods and domestic products to prevent unfair market competition;

3. Prevent unqualified goods from being dumped into the Nigerian market, so as to avoid losses for the country and importers;

4. Avoid loss of life and property, including loss of foreign exchange paid to exporters;

5. To prevent the negative effects such as environmental pollution caused by relevant management agencies when destroying unqualified products;

6. Ensure fast customs clearance of imported goods, thus facilitating trade;

7. Help encourage genuine investors to invest in Nigeria;

3. The authentication process of applying for SONCAP includes two processes:

1, product certification (PC certificate);

The first step is product certification. All controlled products must first apply for a PC certificate, which is valid for 1-3 years. First, provide the test report and submit it to the corresponding office for PC conversion.

PC certificate fee: (1 year, if it is 3 years, it needs to be multiplied by 3): 2 16USD+24 (model × trademark-1).

The information needed to apply for PC is as follows: (1), PC application form, (2), power of attorney, (3), trademark registration certificate, (4), sample.

2.SONCAP compulsory certification. (SC certificate)
