Zhang Zhankui, the founder of Xingyi Baguazhang

Zhang worked as a farmer in his hometown when he was a child, and learned Dahongquan from a boxer named Wang. At that time, the boxer Wang was famous in his hometown for his "iron body". Zhang Zhankui likes to fight against injustices by nature, and he has a philanthropic nature. He often steps forward to mediate any quarrels or fights in his hometown.

In the autumn of the third year of Guangxu (1877), there was a drought in North China. Zhang Zhankui went to Tianjin to survive, and later made a career selling fruits and vegetables. He got acquainted with Li Cunyi of Shen County, Zhili Province, and became sworn friends with Jinlan. Li Cunyi is the sixth generation direct descendant of Xingyi Quan. He strongly recommends this little brother to become a disciple of his mentor Liu Qilan, the fifth generation direct descendant of Xingyi Quan. Liu Qilan and Guo Yunshen were representative figures in the heyday of Chinese Xingyi Quan. Guo Yunshen loved to roam the lakes and seas and fight all over the world with his "half-step collapse boxing"; while Liu Qilan was just the opposite, used to live in seclusion in the countryside and cultivate fighting masters for entertainment. In addition to Li Cunyi, his famous disciples include Zhou Mingtai, Geng Jishan, Liu Dianchen, etc. Under the careful guidance of Liu Qilan and Li Cunyi, Zhang Zhankui made rapid progress, and together with Li Cunyi, he was hailed as the "two pillars" of the sixth generation of the Hebei sect.

In the summer of the seventh year of Guangxu (1881), when Zhang went to Jinmen to sell watermelons, he encountered blackmail from the local market tyrant. At first, there was a quarrel, and then he resorted to violence. In anger, he injured many people and was wanted by the government. Fortunately, a fellow county magistrate interceded for bail and recommended Zhang Zhankui to Dong Haichuan, the world-famous founder of Bagua Zhang. During this time, Dong was old and frail. In fact, Zhang was learning Bagua Zhang from Cheng Tinghua, Dong's disciple. Technique. Soon, Dong Haichuan passed away suddenly. Zhang Zhankui handed the message in front of his tomb, and Cheng Tinghua accepted his disciples as his teacher. Eventually, Zhang Zhankui, together with Yin Fu, Cheng Tinghua, Liu Fengchun, Ma Gui, Ma Weiqi, Song Changrong and Liu Dekuan, was called the "Eight Disciples" of the second generation of Baguazhang.

In the twenty-sixth year of Guangxu (1900), the Eight-Power Allied Forces captured the capital, and Cheng Tinghua was shot and killed. Zhang Zhankui returned to Tianjin.

One day, a fire broke out at the north gate of the old city of Tianjin. A large number of weapons and fire treaties were stored on the tower, waiting for rescue. Zhang Zhankui was seen climbing the stairs alone, and then threw flammable and explosive materials into the city. Finally, he jumped down from the three-foot-five-foot-high city tower with his belongings. Afterwards, Ruan Guozhen, the county magistrate of Tianjin, was moved by this and hired Zhang Zhankui as the "Ma Kuai" of the Tianjin County Government. The arrest industry in the late Qing Dynasty was equivalent to the modern urban criminal police, specializing in dealing with criminals who had special skills or were armed with deadly weapons and were stubbornly resisting. Zhang Zhankui is accustomed to acting alone and has made outstanding contributions. His insight and ability to defeat enemies were almost universally known among the people of Tianjin Wei at that time. The bustling Shuchang Theater at that time also opened its doors to Zhang Zhankui free of charge in order to suppress the market.

Once, an armed group fight broke out in the Guanyinhao area. One party was defeated and was defeated, while the other party pursued and fought fiercely. Zhang Zhankui blocked a large white wax pole across the street. Blocking the path of the pursuers, everyone stopped abruptly, no one dared to cross the thunder pool even half a step.

During a routine inspection, Zhang Zhankui and his assistant Zhou Yuxiang found a guest of unknown origin in the hotel. They were about to question him when they suddenly heard the sound of a gun being pulled in the room. Zhang Zhankui made a quick decision and suddenly hit Zhou's back with force, causing Zhou and others to be thrown into the room with the door. He took advantage of the situation and leapt over the fallen Zhou Yuxiang. In the blink of an eye, he defeated all five gunmen on the kang. As a result, Zhang Zhankui was promoted to battalion director Ma Kuaiban leader.

In the seventh year of the Republic of China (1918), a Russian artist Kantel performed performances such as lifting an iron ball and pulling an iron chain in the Shanghai Minxing Theater and the small garden of Tianjin Tianhe Hospital. The audience responded indifferently, and Kang had an idea. He claimed to be "the best strongman in the world" and "the invincible fighter who traveled around forty-six countries" in "Yiyang Bao", "Sunchon Times" and "Morning Bell". Peiping caused boxers from the north and south to gather in the capital. At this time, Zhang Zhankui's student Han Muxia took the initiative to ask for a fight, and decided that the first match would be between Han and Kang Taier.

After Li Cunyi, Zhang Zhankui, Liu Jinqing, Wang Junchen and others entered Beijing, Zhang Zhankui was not sure about the safety and victory of his apprentices. In order to find out the secret of the Russians breaking the iron chain, he went to the Liuguo Hotel in Dongjiaominxiang. Visit Cantel and ask for a contest. At first, Kang did not agree to fight, saying he wanted to see the outcome on the field. Zhang Zhankui falsely claimed that his skills were not as good as Han Muxia's, and if he couldn't beat him, he shouldn't fight against Han. As soon as they made contact, Zhang Zhankui's palm hit Kantel's left rib, causing Kang Taier's stomach to spasm and vomiting. Zhang Zhankui's plan was sold, and he hurriedly left the place of right and wrong after a brief apology.

The next day, the "Martial Arts Competition" in Kantail was changed to a martial arts competition, and people from all walks of life were furious and urged the "First Strongest Man" to fight.

Heroes from all walks of life took turns to perform martial arts demonstrations. Kang didn't dare to compete with Han Muxia, so he had no choice but to send a letter to apologize, and then left. This incident shocked the whole country at that time, and was published in many newspapers in Beijing. Han Muxia also became famous throughout the country.

In the eighth year of the Republic of China, the Chinese Samurai Association was disorganized due to the sectarian bad habits of traditional martial arts. In addition, Han Muxia claimed to have learned the "anti-Bagua (palm)" technique from Ying Tianwen, Dong Haichuan's junior disciple in Jiuhua Mountain, which aroused Zhang Zhankui's dissatisfaction. In a boxing competition, the master and the disciple refused to give in. Han advanced step by step due to his youth, but Zhang Zhankui suddenly hit Han on the side of the chest with his palm, causing Han to vomit a mouthful of blood. Later, Han Muxia left the Samurai Association and established a separate Han Muxia Boxing Academy. Although masters and apprentices Zhang and Han have reconciled as before, the plaque "Chinese Warriors Association" has ceased to exist in name only.

At this point, Zhang Zhankui returned to his home in Tianjin and was enjoying teaching as a disciple. The practice location is located in the YMCA building on the south side of the house and is named after the "Chinese Martial Arts Association".

At this time, Zhang Zhankui has completed the synthesis of Xingyiquan and Baguaquan. It is derived from the trinity of Xingyiquan's strength, Baguaquan transformation and secret transmission pole method. It is independent of the traditional Xingyiquan and Baguazhang and the "Xingyibagua" system which is famous for its fierce strength. And changed the traditional Xingyiquan to "Dajia". His high-speed and high-destruction fighting skills earned him the nickname "Lightning Hand" and made him famous in the martial arts world.

When Zhang Zhankui was teaching disciples, he once made his disciple Zuo Zhenying jump up and spin in the air. He also once broke a big ash tree pole as thick as a bowl with a shake. At that time, Gao Fu'an was a famous Peking Opera martial arts student with a reputation as a "chivalrous actor". He declared everywhere that "a good actor is not as good as a bad actor" and was determined to compete with Zhang Zhankui. During the fight, Gao Fu'an nimbly escaped from the hiding place on the side of the ladder. Jumped out from everywhere and yanked Zhang's braid. Zhang Shen's mobile phone spirit suddenly turned around and twisted him over, rolling him downstairs.

During this period, the "Xingyi Bagua Clan" reached its heyday. The power covers North China and monopolizes Tianjin. At that time, martial arts masters, from boxing masters to street performers, had to obtain Zhang Zhankui's permission if they wanted to engage in martial arts-related activities in the local area. Therefore, some people refer to him as "Sai Tianba". In fact, Zhang is not domineering at all. He always uses selfless tolerance to help and protect those who are wandering in the martial arts world, from masters to swindlers. For example, Wang Xiangzhai, the young founder of Yiquan, came to Tianjin to seek a job and visited Zhang Zhankui in the name of "Guo Yunshen's disciple". Zhang's early disciples Liu Chaohai, Liu Junqing, Han Muxia and others refused to acknowledge him because of the age gap, but Zhang Zhankui did not care about the age gap. He treated Wang as a brother, and asked his late disciples Qiu Zhihe, Miao Chunshe, Gu Xiaochi and Zhao Daoxin to learn Zhanzhuang Push Hands from Uncle Wang, and also let this junior disciple accompany him to participate in various boxing competitions. In addition, in the 24th year of the Republic of China (1935), the veteran boxer Xiao Haibo was named "Dong Haichuan's Junior Brother" in the "Jianghu Story" published in the "New Tianjin News", which angered many Baguazhang boxers. Xiao confessed to Zhang He revealed that the incident was purely fictitious, and soon gained Zhang's understanding and long-term protection.

Zhang Zhankui’s disciples numbered in the thousands, and among them there must have been people who had bowed to Zhang as disciples but had never learned boxing from Zhang or accepted disciples from Zhang’s disciples. Therefore, the quality and skills of the second generation successors of Xingyi Bagua are mixed. Some of them are giants, and some are mediocre. However, in their daily lives, they never hold their fists high, nor are they brave and arrogant. There are no ten thousand people in their homes. Eight kinds of weapons, all of them have the demeanor of a scholar. Here is a list of some of Zhang Zhankui’s disciples who are often with him for reference:

Later, Zhao Daoxin became famous in Beijing, Tianjin and Shanghai, and became Zhang Zhankui's most outstanding student.

At the entertainment conference in Hangzhou, president Zhang Jingjiang complained that contestants from the north had won too many awards and claimed that "Zhejiang people will not let their medals be taken out of Hangzhou easily." There was friction between the northern and southern boxers, and a large-scale private fight outside the ring was brewing. Finally, Zhang Zhankui, the organizer of the conference, came forward to mediate and persuade. He found Zhang Jingjiang and declared in public, "Anyone who is not convinced can just come to me, Zhang Zhankui." Some of the troublemakers did not dare to act rashly.

In his later years, Zhang Zhankui was already very old, but he was still strong except for some movement disorders in his left foot bone.

Once, he sat on the Taishi chair and let two junior students hit him on the face at will. After boxing for a long time, they were resolved one by one. Once again, his disciple Qiu Zhihe took a boxing photo, but he didn't want to pose but wanted to do it for real. So the most agile disciple was allowed to attack in any way. Qiu thought that his master's legs and feet were inconvenient, so he went straight to his lower body. As soon as his arm touched it, the old man immediately gained the upper hand. With a "click" sound, this precious moment was captured by Zhao Daoxin.

One day, Zhang was listening to a play at the Tianjin Grand Theater. He left his seat to relieve himself in the middle. When he came back, he found that the seat was occupied by a warlord soldier. Zhang politely explained to no avail, so he lifted the soldier up from his seat, walked a few steps, and placed it on an empty seat nearby. Soldiers and onlookers alike were stunned….

After accepting Wu Xingchen as his disciple, Zhang Zhankui followed Zhao Daoxin's suggestion and "closed the gate" and planned to spend his remaining years with his family. Later, he often felt upset in his appetite and had difficulty swallowing. At first, he thought it was indigestion. After his condition worsened, he was considered to have contracted typhoid fever. Later, the pain was severe and I couldn't drink soup. It was confirmed that I had esophageal cancer. It was not until the midsummer of the twenty-seventh year of the Republic of China (July 1938) that this influential figure in the modern martial arts circle passed away, leaving behind the feats of his life. All walks of life in Tianjin and the Xingyi Baguazhang clan sadly held a very grand memorial ceremony for him. Ceremony, his coffin was placed in Tianjin Yiyuan Cemetery. For people to pay homage to!
