Mayang Miao Autonomous County, referred to as Mayang, is located in the west of Hunan Province and the north of Huaihua City. It is connected to Chenxi County to the east, Hecheng District and Zhijiang Dong Autonomous County to the south, and Bijiang, Tongren City, Guizhou Province to the west. It borders Fenghuang County and Luxi County of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in the north, and is affiliated to Huaihua City, Hunan Province.
Mayang has a total area of ??1,568.19 square kilometers, and has jurisdiction over 10 townships, 8 towns, and the Copper Mine Management Office. There are 201 administrative villages and 22 communities (2020), with a total registered population of 391,811 people (2021), GDP will reach 10.112 billion yuan (2021) [1].
Mayang enjoys many reputations such as "China's Rock Sugar Orange Capital", "China's Modern Folk Painting Town", and "National Demonstration County for Citrus Organic Fertilizer Substitution of Chemical Fertilizers".
Mayang is located between the Wuling Mountains and the Xuefeng Mountains, and belongs to the Yuanma Basin, running from southwest to northeast. The terrain is higher on the south, west, and north sides, and lower in the middle. It slopes toward the east and opens, slightly in the shape of a basket, with mountains, hills, valleys, and plains. The territory is crisscrossed by mountains, undulating hills, criss-crossing valleys, and continuous plains.
Natural resources include water conservancy resources, mineral resources and forest resources. Among them, proven underground mineral deposits include 7 types of copper, lead, zinc, hematite, kaolin, vanadium and geothermal springs, and 54 mineral deposits. The annual average temperature is 19.5 degrees Celsius, the average temperature in January is 5.6 degrees Celsius, and the average temperature in July is 28 degrees Celsius. The average annual rainfall is 1,300 mm and the frost-free period is 300 days.
