What should we do to protect Buddhism?
First, establish the right dharma and protect the Buddhism

The Huayan Sutra says, "Faith is the mother of virtue and virtue, and it nurtures all good roots." People who study Buddhism should first get started with faith and be devout, so that they can grow all kinds of good roots, which is a prerequisite. The so-called true faith, such as "Cheng Wei Zhi Lun", says: "Faith is based on virtue and ability, deeply endures pleasure and desires, and the heart is pure; If you don't believe in governance, be good at it. " We should be convinced that the Sanzang Classics are the truth and facts proclaimed by the Buddha, and believe that we and others can prove the merits of the Buddha. Only by establishing and adhering to the true faith can we advance on the road of supreme bodhi, adhere to the true faith, oppose superstition, and cleanse the words and deeds that are not in line with the true faith. Secondly, we should make clear what Buddhism is in order to work hard on the protection. In the Lotus Sutra, the Buddha said, "All things are impermanent, all laws have no self, and nirvana is silent, and the third is dharma seal." The Mahayana-Reality Seal, where the three seals are integrated, is the center of the teachings of the Sanzang ancient books and records, and the criterion for verifying the truth and evil of Buddhist philosophy. What conforms to the truth of the three seals and one reality seal is Buddhism, but what does not conform to the truth of the three seals and one reality seal is not Buddhism. Those who study Buddhism can be trusted and pursued for the teaching method that conforms to the positive seal, and everything that conforms to the positive seal should be fully protected.

2. Pure Sangha and Long Shao's Three Treasures

The Sangha translates "Harmony with the United States", "Harmony with Monks" and "Fazhong". In a broad sense, it also includes men and women laymen at home or "seven monks" (seven sangha). When the Buddha lived in the world, he formulated a series of corresponding commandments in order to make the monk group really play the role of a teacher. Master Taixu said, "I am aiming at sorting out the Sangha system and practicing it in the Buddhist precepts of yoga." Indeed, the words and deeds of a Buddhist, especially a monk, are directly related to the rise and fall of Buddhism, so it is imperative to abide by the Buddhist system. For the prosperity of Buddhism, all people and things that do not conform to Buddhism must, in principle, distinguish right from wrong, break evil and show righteousness; In order to safeguard the interests of Buddhism, we must eliminate all kinds of evil influence in the cause of promoting Buddhism and benefiting students, so that the Dharma can be carried forward, which is one of the main contents of protecting the Dharma.

In recent years, it has been publicly reported that a small number of pseudo-monks mixed into Buddhism have committed many evils, such as murder, whoring, fornication, theft and other ugly acts. Although these people have been duly punished in law, the "sequela" caused by them is endless and irritating, which not only desecrates the holy Buddhism and solemn temples, but also causes extremely bad influence in society. In recent years, "monks" who claim to be a temple in a certain mountain have often appeared in the streets and alleys of towns and villages, dressed in monk costumes and holding "certificates" or "letters of introduction" to defraud money from house to house under the pretext of building temples and sculpture Buddha statues. In response to the ugly behavior of these lawless people with ulterior motives, relevant temples or Buddhist associations have issued statements in Buddhist publications to safeguard the reputation of Buddhism, but its situation has caused adverse effects in society. It must be pointed out here that all kinds of pseudo-monks or nominal Buddhists are not qualified to be called disciples of Buddhism at all. They must not blindly look at the surface, but should clearly examine the truth and falsehood, dare to expose people and things that damage the reputation of Buddhism, so that the public can clarify right and wrong and restore the original solemnity of Buddhism. This is a matter that must be discussed in protecting the law. President Zhao Buchu pointed out in the report of "Thirty Years of Chinese Buddhist Association": "Buddhists are required to consciously abide by the Constitution and laws, draw a clear line between religious activities and illegal activities carried out by using religion, and resolutely fight against bad people and evil things under the guise of Buddhism." In order to protect the Dharma for a long time, it will also be a long-term protection work to fight against the bad guys who use Buddhism as a cover and use religion to carry out illegal activities.

It is imperative to sort out the craze of the Sangha system. At present, there are some intolerable phenomena in the monasteries: fighting, fighting, smoking, thirst for wine and eating meat, some becoming "professional monks", becoming monks for a few years, and rushing through Buddhist rituals (some publicly burning "paper scraps" in the monasteries when holding a super-recommendation ceremony), so as to earn enough money. Others will take back the money earned from doing Buddhism or temples to laymen. Master Zheng Guo, the late vice president of the Chinese Buddhist Association, said: "People who study Buddhism only have a name in form, but their words and deeds are contrary to the Buddha's words and deeds, which is not only beneficial to themselves, but also harmful to Buddhism. For example, a very small number of Buddhists live their lives in the name of studying Buddhism in society, which not only insults Buddhism, but also harms the national interests. For such nominal Buddhists, the best way is to ask them to quit the cult to reduce the dirt of Buddhism. He added, "The money from the Sambo must be spent on the Sambo. If it is taken to the laity, it will be the biggest overthrow of Jaken. Sin is boundless, death in hell, terrible! Awesome! " The words of the eminent monk Dade are worth learning from today's Buddhism, and at the same time, they are also a wake-up call for all those who are not as good as the law.

Third, strive to eliminate all kinds of evil influence and safeguard the interests of the three treasures

The first chapter of the Trial Measures for the Management of Buddhist Temples in the Han Dynasty formulated by the Chinese Buddhist Association points out: "Temples are managed by monks themselves under the administrative leadership of the religious affairs department of the government." Article 19 of Chapter V says: "Production and self-support undertakings can absorb a necessary number of employees, or they can be accounted for separately, but personnel, finance and business must be managed by the temple." Article 2 says: "The service outlets and activities should be brought into the scope of temple management on the principle of not affecting the purity and solemnity of the temple." A series of measures on temple management formulated by the Chinese Buddhist Association, in principle, safeguard the interests of the three treasures and are supported by the majority of Buddhist believers. However, the departments in charge of some monasteries and their so-called "management committees" run counter to the relevant religious policies of the central authorities and the relevant management regulations formulated by the Chinese Buddhist Association, and create another set, resulting in various strange phenomena: First, some people in the relevant departments strive to contract the construction of monasteries in order to obtain kickbacks and other benefits, resulting in the final contractor cutting corners and damaging the interests of monasteries. Second, "selling dog meat by hanging sheep's head", some vegetarian restaurants contracted by individuals in temples also supply cigarettes and alcohol. Third, occupy three treasures to make a fortune, and for personal gain, regardless of the purity and solemnity of the overall layout, there are too many and too dense photo booths set up, and in order to make money, you can cater to customers at will. Fourth, get into the temple tickets and economic contracting of the service department. For all the facts mentioned above, all the economic income depends on the temple, and the income should belong to the permanent residents of the temple. If employees are needed, they should also be recruited by the permanent residents and paid corresponding wages. This is in line with the implementation of relevant religious policies and truly managed by monks in the temple; However, the economic income of many temples is not paid for their permanent residence, and most of the money flows into the pockets of a few family members. The temple is the Dojo for monks to practice Buddhism and study, and it is also the place to practice the teachings of the Buddha Tzu Chi. In order to make it truly a pure and solemn Dojo with three treasures, it is necessary to correct all acts that violate the teachings of Buddhism and damage the solemnity of the temple, and it is strictly forbidden to sell cigarettes, alcohol and all meat foods in the temple service department and vegetarian restaurant.

To strictly abide by the Buddhist system of becoming a monk, first of all, we should make a good job of becoming a monk, and the younger generation of monks should receive formal training in Buddhist colleges as far as possible, so as to train monks to continue their Buddhist wisdom and Long Shao's three treasures, so that they can undertake the Tathagata mission and spread the Dharma. We should straighten out the relationship between studying teachings and practicing Buddhism; The purpose of learning Buddhism should be clear, and the priorities should be clear.

Fourth, don't desecrate Buddhist scriptures and Buddha statues

People are easy to lose, and Buddhism smells bad. If the Buddha is not born, everything on earth will be like a long night. The three Tibetan classics of Buddhism are crossing the sea, sailing in a secluded way, precious torches, wet nurses of babies, and rice beams of fierce years. Reading the scriptures can explain its meaning, and it is widely publicized and promoted, and its merits are boundless; You can't understand what it means, but if you have admiration, you will get infinite blessings. Seeing Buddhist classics is like seeing a Buddha, paying homage to the statues of the Buddha, and thinking about it. It seems that seeing the Buddha is no different, respecting worship, and honoring a Buddha means observing countless buddhas, and honoring the Buddha now means observing the past and future buddhas; I want to make the number of dust in the tenth party and the third world as before, and all of them have my own cultivation and support. Before the infinite robbery, the Buddha died for half a week. After the extinction of the Buddha, only the scriptures and images have been handed down from generation to generation. When reading the Buddhist scriptures, we should think of listening to the Buddha's sound, treat all the Buddha statues as true Buddha's thoughts and respect worship. If we can be so sincere and follow the law, we can break our troubles and prove Bodhi. However, it is not uncommon for the secular ignorant to despise Buddhist scriptures, intentionally or unintentionally destroy and slander Buddhist scriptures and Buddha statues, and intentional or unintentional blasphemy by some ignorant people in Buddhism, which is really distressing. For example, when the Buddha and Bodhisattva are used as advertisements and trademarks of commodities, there are common tea trademarks, sachets, packaging boxes, etc. When these items are used up, most of the outer packages printed with Buddha and Bodhisattva are littered as garbage; Newspapers with images of Buddha and Bodhisattva printed on them are also used as waste paper to wrap things, or sold as waste products, which inevitably causes serious blasphemy; Secondly, it is also common for some ignorant people to regard Buddhist scriptures and Buddha statues as "amulets", and to have "mini-books" of Buddhist sutras or small frames of Buddha and Bodhisattva statues in their pockets, or to wear prayer beads with Buddha statues. As they go in and out of unclean places (such as toilets, bathhouses or public bathhouses), these people still think they are pious and mistakenly think that doing so can ensure peace, but they do not know that this is undoubtedly a blasphemous act. Some people in the bedroom (such as husband and wife's room) offer Buddhist altars or store scriptures, which is inappropriate and blasphemous. I would like to appeal that business people must not arbitrarily use the Buddha statue as a trademark, advertisement, packaging box, etc. for profit; At the same time, the majority of believers are advised to learn from Buddhism with correct knowledge, correct view and true faith. When offering Buddha statues unconditionally, they don't have to be forced. They should understand the truth that the heart is Buddha, resolutely put an end to all acts of desecration of Buddhist scriptures and Buddha statues, and Qi Xin will work together to protect the solemn and clean Buddha statues of Buddhist scriptures and make more contributions.

what should be done with damaged Buddhist scriptures and statues? Master Yin Guang said: "If the image can't be donated, it will be incinerated, but it can't be made into ordinary paper, and a new incinerator must be set up." Strictly defend, don't let the ash fly over, take it from the ash and put it in a very dense cloth bag, and then clean the sand or stone into the water and it will sink, so as not to float on both sides. In the sea where those who cross the sea go deep into the sea, or in the depths of the river, you can, and you can't vote in a small ditch and a small river. "

For the prosperity of Buddhism, we must remove all obstacles in the path of dharma protection with the dauntless spirit, break evil and show righteousness, and show Buddhism. The purpose of upholding the Dharma is to continue the wisdom of Buddhism, spread the Dharma and benefit the students. The quality of upholding the Dharma is directly related to the rise and fall of Buddhism. Disciples of Buddhism, let's make concerted efforts to protect Buddhism and pray that the Dharma will last for a long time and benefit all beings.
