Gastrodia elata in Nanchuan, a plant of Gastrodia in Orchidaceae, is a traditional and precious Chinese herbal medicine with a history of more than 2,000 years. Products are widely used in medicine, food and many other fields, with high medicinal and edible value.
There are 10 towns above 900 meters above sea level in Nanchuan District, which has the unique natural conditions for the development of Gastrodia elata in Nanchuan. In order to protect wild gastrodia elata resources and meet the market demand for gastrodia elata, the cultivation techniques of wild gastrodia elata have been studied since 1960s. Through the unremitting efforts of several generations of researchers, the cross breeding technology of Gastrodia elata in Nanchuan has been completed, and excellent local varieties have been selected, which have the characteristics of fast growth, high yield and good quality. After testing, the content of gastrodin exceeds 0.5%, which is much higher than the national legal level of 0.2%.
