Beiguan is the origin of radish in Weixian County. Weixian radish, also known as "Weixian green radish" or "high-footed green radish", is a local specialty of Weixian County and a famous radish variety in Shandong Province. Weixian radish was originally produced in the western suburbs of ancient Wei County, and the Beigong land (near Beigong, Beiguan Street, Weicheng District today) was the best, so it is also called "Beigong radish". Beigong belongs to Beiguan, so it is also called "Beiguan Carrot". Later, as the city continued to expand, the production area gradually moved northward to the vicinity of Dongxiazhuang, Beiguan Street. After 1950, the provincial agricultural department listed the purification, rejuvenation and quality improvement of Weixian radish as a scientific research project. Through collaborative research, the yield and quality continued to improve. Radish cultivation in Weixian County has gradually developed from the suburbs of Weicheng to Changle, Shouguang, Hanting, Fangzi, Kuiwen, Anqiu, Qingzhou and other counties and cities, and the area has continued to expand. In 1998, Weicheng District took the lead in registering the "Jufeng" brand Weixian radish trademark.
Weixian radish has a cultivation history of more than 300 years. When Zheng Banqiao, a famous calligrapher and painter in the Qing Dynasty, was the magistrate of Wei County, he wrote in "Guan Pu" that "Weixian radish is famous all over the world", and wrote a poem on a gift list for an imperial minister: "Northeastern ginseng and phoenix pear are hard to come by. Weixian radish skin. I will give it to the imperial envoy as a generous gift today. It can exorcise evil spirits and smooth the flow of energy." There is also a folk saying in Shandong that "Yantai apples and Laiyang pears are not as good as Weixian radish skins."

There are three varieties of radish in Weixian: Daying, Xiaoying and Erdaying, with Erdaying being the best. All are mosaic type with dark green leaves. The fleshy roots are cylindrical, with the aboveground accounting for 3/4, and are green in color. The radish grows vigorously, has white-green flesh, and a mild spiciness. It is suitable for cooked food and pickling. Small radish grows slowly, has dark green skin, thin and crisp skin, sweet and fragrant taste, and is suitable for eating raw. The characteristics of Erdaying radish are between the two. The meat is tight, green in color, crisp, sweet and juicy. It can be eaten raw like fruit and has a slightly spicy aroma, so it is also called "fruit radish". The so-called "Weixian radish" usually refers to This variety.
