Autumn Plum in Huludao
As early as 1924, Xing Laowei, a fruit farmer from Zhangxianggongtun, Lianshan District, Huludao City, introduced autumn plums from Xiongyuecheng, Gaixian County, and grafted the scions on the local Prunus armeniaca rootstock. The trial planting was successful, and it showed the advantages of early fruiting, delicious taste and high yield. As a result, it was widely cultivated around Hongluo Mountain. In 1983, it was approved and popularized by Liaoning Crop Variety Approval Committee.
The fruit of autumn plum in Huludao is medium-sized, nearly spherical, with an average single fruit weight of 3 grams and a maximum of 75 grams. When it is fully mature, it is purple-red, covered with white fruit powder, and its skin is thin and shiny, resembling purple agate. The pulp is orange-yellow, soft and juicy, with very little fiber, very strong fragrance and very small stone. Autumn plums in Huludao ripened in late August and went on the market in September, becoming a hot commodity in the fruit market. Autumn plums in Huludao are suitable for fresh eating, and canned and preserved fruits processed with them are also well received by consumers.
