According to the EU Waste Electrical and Electronic Recycling Directive 2002/96/EC (WEEE), all electrical and electronic products put on the EU market after August 13, 2005 are required to use recycling icons. The EU’s requirements for the design and use of icons are briefly introduced as follows.
1. Scope of application
This regulation applies to electrical and electronic equipment. The EN standard prEN50419 on the design and use of icons defines electrical and electronic equipment as the following products:
refers to equipment designed to operate normally with a rated operating voltage not exceeding 1000V AC or 1500V DC, relying on current or electromagnetic fields, or equipment that generates, converts, and measures such currents and electromagnetic fields. This type of equipment is listed in Annex IA of the WEEE Directive 2002/96/EC.
The standard also defines a producer, which is:
Any person who engages in the following activities. The definition of producers also includes those who simply sell the technology used, including the sale of technology by remote communication in accordance with Directive 97/7/EC of the European Parliament of 20 May 1997 on consumer protection in remote (electronic) contracts:
a. ?Manufacture and sell electrical and electronic products and equipment under its own brand;
b. ?Sellers who sell products manufactured by other suppliers but marked with their own trademarks; if the manufacturer's trademark appears on the product, the seller cannot be considered the manufacturer.
c. ?Import or export electrical and electronic equipment to member states in specialized areas.
2. Content requirements for icons
In order to identify the manufacturer and indicate that the equipment was put on the market after August 13, 2005, the product should have the following content and logos:
1. ?The unique identification of the producer; it can be a brand, trademark, company registration code or other similar means of describing the producer; no matter which method is chosen, in accordance with Article 12 Paragraph 1 of EU 2002/96/EC (WEEE), The producer should have a producer registration record in an EU member state.
2. ?Products put on the market after August 13, 2005 should be marked with one of the following two types of information:
2.1? According to the provisions of EN28601, the manufacturing / Date of placing on the market
. The code should be designed to be identifiable by processing equipment.
2.2? Use the prescribed auxiliary icons, i.e., crosshatch and wheeled bin, see the figure below, see also Article 12, paragraph 3, and Annex IV of 2002/96/EC (WEEE).
Note: The requirements of this clause do not limit the use of the above two methods at the same time.
3. ?Icons should be prominently located, resistant to abrasion, and legible. ?
Three, icon design requirements
The auxiliary icon mentioned in paragraph 2 of Article 2 should consist of the following content, a solid core with a height of h and a width of 1.2a Strips, the relationship between height h and width should be 0.3a or 1mm; solid strips should be used in conjunction with cross lines and wheeled trash can graphics; there should be no text or information inside the solid strips. The interrelationship of the solid strips to the crosshatch and wheeled bin graphics shall be as specified in the diagram above.
Note: The size and relationship of the crosshatch and wheeled trash can graphics are the same as the waste battery recycling graphics defined and specified in Supplement 11 of IEC61429.
When designing the above icon graphics, graphic changes caused by limitations or changes in the production process are allowed (such as changes in line thickness, changes in rounded corners, combination of lines, etc.), as long as the graphics look subjective It can be obviously deformed.
Four. Quality requirements for icons
The quality requirements for icons should comply with the quality requirements for nameplates in specific product standards. If the product does not have a standard or the standard does not stipulate the quality requirements for icons , the following requirements should be met:
Wipe the icon 15S with a cotton cloth dipped in water and wipe the icon 15S with a cotton cloth dipped in gasoline to check the compliance of the icon's scratch resistance.
After this test, the icon should still be legible and cannot be easily removed. If label nameplates are used, there should be no curling.
Note: The aliphatic hydrocarbon hexane solvent used for the friction resistance test should have a maximum aromatic hydrocarbon content of 0.1, kauri butanol (dissolved solution) value of 29, and initial boiling point It should be roughly 65℃, the drying point is about 69℃, and the mass per unit volume is about 0.7kg/L.
5. Selection of icon location
If the icon cannot be marked on the product due to product size or product functional characteristics, etc., then:
a)? Mark the icon on a small flag on the power cord (if any); and
b) Mark it on the product instruction manual and warranty, if provided.
If none of the above applies, the icon should be marked on the box. Regardless of the method mentioned in this article, the icon shall comply with the requirements of Articles 2, 3, and, if applicable, Article 4.
