The largest fake wine market in China

The largest counterfeit wine market in China has no clear location.

During the Spring Festival in 1998, a major poisonous alcohol incident occurred in Shuozhou, Shanxi. Criminals used industrial alcohol containing a large amount of methanol, or even directly used methanol to make liquor for sale. More than 20 people were poisoned to death and hundreds of people were poisoned. The person was sent to the hospital for rescue. Six years later, in 2004, in Wenshui County, the production site of the counterfeit wine involved in the Shuozhou counterfeit wine case in Shanxi, someone was making and selling counterfeit wine again in Gaoche Village, where the wine making industry is concentrated.

I saw a shocking scene in Wenshui County: While the county regards the wine making in Gaoche Village as a pillar industry, it also has to admit that Gaoche Village is a disaster-stricken area for the manufacture and sale of counterfeit goods. On December 5, 2003, more than 50 farmers in Yuanjiang Hani Yi and Dai Autonomous County, Yuxi City, Yunnan Province became poisoned on December 7 after drinking fake wine. From the 7th to the 8th, more than 30 people were poisoned by fake wine. Four of the patients died due to excessive poisoning.

On January 27, 2005, the Fengtai Industrial and Commercial Bureau received a complaint from Luzhou Laojiao Co., Ltd., indicating that a merchant at the Xinfadi Agricultural Products Central Wholesale Market in Fengtai District, Beijing, was selling products that infringed upon the company’s registered trademark. The products of "Centennial Guojiao" and "Luzhou Laojiao" wines are required to be investigated and punished.

Wine

Wine is made from grain through fermentation. Its chemical component is ethanol, which generally contains trace amounts of fusel alcohols and esters. The concentration of edible liquor is generally Below 60 degrees (i.e. 60) (a few have more than 60 degrees), the liquor is fractionated and purified to above 75 to become medical alcohol, and to above 99.5 to become absolute ethanol.
