I am also engaged in cross-border e-commerce. I used to do Taobao, but now I do Taobao and cross-border e-commerce together.
When I started doing cross-border e-commerce, I didn’t know anything, so I had to figure it out on my own. Now that I think about it, it was really hard, and there were a lot of detours. From preparing the product, registering an account, putting the product on the shelves, and making pictures, every step was a trial and error process.
Based on my experience. If you want to do cross-border e-commerce, you need to understand the following points:
1. There are many platforms. Think carefully about which platform you want to settle in and choose according to your actual situation. For example, the domestic platform AliExpress. You need to pay an annual fee of 10,000, and the platform takes 8% (different for each category, some are more). The background operation is in Chinese, which saves a big trouble for people who do not understand English. The main market is the Russian European market, which takes the low-end route. Another example is Amazon. Its backend operations are in English and it takes a high-end route. The entry fee is more than 30 US dollars a month. It requires an FBA warehouse and is an American platform. For example, cdiscount, etc., many emerging platforms do not require entry fees. If you want to do cross-border e-commerce, you should learn more about the platforms.
2. Preparation of materials. For example, AliExpress requires a business license, its own trademark, and product listing. Amazon requires a business license, trademark, bank statement, utility bill statement, and U.S. bank card account number.
3. Platform features: AliExpress needs to upload a large number of products, and the market is not particularly mature, but it is relatively simple to obtain traffic compared to domestic Taobao. The Amazon platform is the world's largest cross-border e-commerce platform. The platform is mature and adopts a high-quality route. One store can operate one product.
4. Logistics: When doing cross-border e-commerce, logistics is a big problem. Logistics cost is the biggest cost of doing this business. If you can get discounts, you can make a lot of money.
5. Don’t talk about how good your skills are. No matter what platform you use now, the issue of replenishment of orders is unavoidable. You will be punished for order fraud, and the enforcement is very strict, but many merchants will still take risks. This is also forced by the platform. If the product has no sales, it will not be ranked. If the product is not ranked, it will disappear.
Before doing cross-border e-commerce, you must be prepared first. I have roughly said a few things here, and there are many things to pay attention to. Colleagues are welcome to add, and newbies are welcome to ask questions, and I will answer them for you.
I wish you all a happy new year
