A Chinese company wants to apply for an international trademark called "Imabari" for towel manufacturing. However, Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture, Japan, and the Imabari Towel Industry Federation raised objections to the Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce of China during the trademark publicity period.

In fact, as early as 2009, a Chinese company applied to the Trademark Office to register this trademark, but it was unsuccessful.

This Chinese company applied in February last year. The Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce of China issued a public notice in February this year. If there is no objection within 3 months, it will be approved.

Imabari City and the Imabari Towel Industry Federation learned about this situation through China’s intellectual property-related firms. They believe that “Imabari” comes from Imabari City, Japan, which is the birthplace of the well-known towel brand “Imabari Towel” origin, so Imabari City and the Imabari Towel Industry Federation decided to formally issue objections.

Previously, in 2009, when Chinese companies wanted to apply to register the "Imabari" trademark, Imabari City and the Japan Shikoku Towel Industry Federation issued objections to the application. In the end, the Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce of China ruled in 2014 that it would not recognize the "Imabari" trademark applied by a Chinese company.
