Wine labels are one of the ways consumers can directly and quickly learn about a wine. According to Article 42 of the "Food Safety Law of the People's Republic of China", pre-packaged foods should have Chinese labels on their packages. If imported wine is to be sold on the market, in addition to having front and back labels, the wine bottles must also have labels on the front and back. There should also be a formal Chinese back label on the back. The Chinese back label should indicate the following matters:

(1) Wine name

1. The wine name on the back label must have clear product attributes, for example, "wine" or "wine" should be added after the name. "Sparkling wine";

2. There is a correspondence between the Chinese name and the foreign name and cannot be translated casually;

3. No infringement, such as last year's "Lafite" and "Lafite" In the "Manor" trademark infringement case, Nanjing Lafite Chateau Winery Co., Ltd., Nanjing Huaxia Grape Winery Co., Ltd., etc. were ordered to pay a total compensation of 79.17 million yuan to the French Chateau Lafite Rothschild due to trademark infringement.

(2) Country of origin, product type, grape picking year and variety

1. Country of origin, specific place of production of wine;

2. Product category Type, such as: dry, semi-dry, sweet, etc.;

3. Grape picking year, in which year the grapes were picked;

4. Variety, used for winemaking What are the grape varieties?

(3) Filling date marking

1. The common order should be: xxxx year xx month xx day;

2. If not according to year and month If only numbers are used to express the day, it should be expressed in an easy-to-understand expression such as: 19/10/2020 (day/month/year) or 10/19/2020 (month/day/year).

(4) Alcohol content

Starting from 2012, the alcohol content unit must be marked as "%vol". For example, units such as 14.5% or 14.5° are incorrectly marked.

(5) Additives

1. Sulfur dioxide (SO2). Common wines on the market generally contain sulfur dioxide, but the fact that this wine label contains trace amounts of sulfur dioxide is only part of fulfilling the legal obligation. According to national regulations, wine produced and imported after August 1, 2013 that uses the food additive sulfur dioxide should be labeled as sulfur dioxide, or labeled as trace sulfur dioxide and its content. "National Food Safety Standard for the Use of Food Additives GB2760-2014" stipulates that the maximum usage amount of sulfur dioxide in wine is 0.25g/L;

2. Additive labeling, such as: ingredients, auxiliary materials, raw materials and auxiliary materials;

3. The common names of the food additives used in the national standards. For example, it is irregular to use the big concept of "sulfite" instead of "sulfur dioxide".

(6) Storage methods

Appropriate storage conditions must be indicated. Commonly used words include: avoid light, lie down, room temperature, cool, horizontal or tilted placement, etc.

(7) Shelf life

1. According to the provisions of 4.5 of the "National Food Safety Standard for Fermented Wine and its Prepared Wine" (GB 2758-2012): wine and other alcoholic contents are greater than or equal to 10% volume fermented wine and its prepared wines are exempt from labeling the shelf life;

2. Note: Some wines will have a shelf life of 10 or 20 years on the back label, but when drinking, The specific situation should be determined by many factors such as the quality of the wine itself and storage conditions.

(8) Manufacturer registration number in China

1. According to the "Regulations of the People's Republic of China on the Registration and Management of Overseas Production Enterprises of Imported Food" and the "People's Republic of China" Announcement on matters related to the implementation of the "China Import and Export Food Safety Management Measures": Starting from January 1, 2022, all imported foods must provide their registration number in China when making customs declarations. Overseas manufacturers of imported food must register with the General Administration of Customs and obtain a registration number in China before they can declare to enter the Chinese market;

2. The registration number in China is an 18-digit code starting with c. The encoding rule is "C" + 3-digit country code + 4-digit product code + 2-digit year code + 2-digit date code + 4-digit sequence number. This number is the most important information for identifying the original bottle of imported wine, and it is also the "ID card" of the imported wine.

(9) Contact information

1. Name, address, contact information of importer, agent or distributor;

2. Importer, agent The contact information of the dealer or distributor: telephone or online contact information, at least one of them must be included;

3. Must have the Chinese name on the business license.

(10) Net content

1. The unit of measurement for net content can only be “ml/L” if it is less than 1,000 ml; if it is above 1,000 ml, “mL” " and "L" are both acceptable, such as 1500mL or 1.5L. It is absolutely wrong to use "cL" (750mL=75cL=0.75L. This formula is not wrong, but it cannot be used on the Chinese back label of wine);

2. The character height of net content, net content If it is less than 50 ml, the characters shall not be smaller than 2 mm; if it is above 50 ml and below 200 ml, the characters shall not be smaller than 3 mm; if it is above 200 ml but below 1000 ml, the characters shall not be smaller than 4 mm; if above 1000 ml, the characters shall not be smaller than 6 mm .

(11) Warnings

1. Starting from 2012, it must be written: "Excessive drinking is harmful to health." In addition, you can also add: "Not suitable for pregnant women", etc. Other warnings are not mandatory.

In addition to the above 11 points specially marked content, you also need to pay attention to: the Chinese back label information and data must match the wine. If the alcohol content of the front label and the back label does not match, or the manufacturer's name is different, it will be considered substandard. If the inspection result does not match the back label parameters, it will also be considered substandard. For example, benzoic acid is detected in the ingredients, but the wine label does not indicate it, etc.
