She called it the cafeteria because she wanted to make the restaurant more approachable. The vivid opening scene of the film implies that she is a natural chef (she secretly feeds Nanao cat food and makes him fat). She called it "Seagull Canteen" probably because the fat seagulls in Finland reminded her of the fat cat Nanao who died because of her over-indulgence. Cats are mysterious animals, which makes the whole film full of mystery and makes people want to know more about it. She was the first of the three Japanese women to arrive in Finland, and the Seagull Restaurant opened a month earlier than Midori and Masako's arrival. However, this month, there was not a single customer in her shop. What a failed operator! How does the food she cooks taste? No one knows!
