The predecessor of Zhengzhou University Law School was the Law Department of Zhengzhou University, which was jointly established by the Ministry of Justice, the Henan Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government in 1980. In 1985, the Law Department was one of the first in the country to establish the economic law major. In 1988, the economic law major was independently established as the Economic Law Department. In 1994, the Department of Law and the Department of Economic Law merged to form the current Zhengzhou University Law School. Zhengzhou University Law School is a newly established law department after the "Cultural Revolution". At the beginning of 1980, Zhengzhou University separated from the original Department of Political Science and established the Department of Law of Zhengzhou University. In that year, there were more than 100 students in the three grades of 1977, 1978, and 1979. At the end of 1981, the school trained the first class of law graduates. With 26 students, it is one of the four institutions in the country with 1977 law graduates.

With the strong support of the Ministry of Justice, the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government, in 1980 the institute transferred nearly 30 outstanding teachers from universities such as Peking University, Jilin University, Beijing University of Political Science and Law, and Southwest University of Political Science and Law. Among them are more than ten famous scholars including Liu Guoren, Xiao Gangang, Ye Gaofeng, Jin Kai, Pan Yonglong, Huo Zhen, Shen Shaofang, Hu Shixiang, Lu Taifeng, etc., who laid a good foundation for the establishment and development of the institute.

In 1980-1981, Peking University sent Professor Wei Min, Professor Li Zhimin, Professor Yang Dunxian, Professor Zhang Yuxiang, and Beijing University of Political Science and Law sent Professor Gan Jihua; Hubei University of Finance and Economics sent Professors Jiang Bikun, Professor Zhu Jiliang, and Zeng Shaoru Professor, Professor Zhuo Zhiqian; more than ten famous experts including Professor Chang Yi sent by Southwest University of Political Science and Law have been teaching in the college for a long time. Famous universities such as Wuhan University and Renmin University of China often send teachers to our school to give special lectures, giving us unforgettable support for the training and future development of the first three students.

In 1985, the college was one of the first in the country to establish the economic law major. In 1988, the economic law major was separated from the law department and an independent economic law department was established.

In 1994, the Law Department and the Economic Law Department merged to form Zhengzhou University Law School.

In 1991, it obtained the right to confer a master's degree in criminal law. After that, it successively obtained the right to confer master's degrees in economic law, civil and commercial law, international law, constitutional and administrative law, jurisprudence, legal history and procedural law, and environmental resources law. In 1998, it was approved as the third batch of national legal master’s professional degree education pilot units.

In 2003, the college's scientific research institutions "Private Law Research Center of Zhengzhou University" and "Constitutional and Administrative Law Research Center of Zhengzhou University" were rated as key research bases in the humanities and social sciences of Henan Province.

In 2005, it obtained the right to confer doctoral degrees in constitutional and administrative law, which was the first doctoral program in law in Henan Province.

In 2008, the law major became a first-level key discipline in Henan Province.

In December 2008, the Zhengzhou University Law School team went to Tsinghua University to participate in the most influential moot court competition in the country - the 6th "Li-Li Cup" National Moot Court Competition, and won the team championship.

In 2010, it obtained the right to award first-level doctoral degrees in law.

Zhengda Law School has strong faculty. Constitutional Law and Administrative Law

There are currently 6 professors, 4 associate professors and 6 lecturers in the Constitutional and Administrative Law major. Among them, 10 have obtained doctoral degrees and are currently studying for doctoral degrees. The academic focus has formed three relatively stable and distinctive research directions: the theory and practice of Chinese constitutionalism, the theory and practice of Chinese administrative rule of law, and the theory and practice of foreign constitutionalism and administrative rule of law. This major serves as 7> directors of national societies. Professor Miao Lianying, the subject leader, is the vice president of the Chinese Constitution Society, a director of the Chinese Jurisprudence Society and the China Juvenile Law Society, an outstanding young and middle-aged backbone teacher in Henan Province, and a training target for cross-century academic and technical leaders in Henan Province. Civil and Commercial Law Major

There are currently 4 professors, 9 associate professors and 9 Ph.D.s in the Civil and Commercial Law major. The subject leader, Professor Tian Tucheng, is a director of the China Law Society, an outstanding teacher in Henan Province, and an outstanding expert in management in Henan Province. The tutor group has a civil law research direction, headed by Associate Professor Geng Lin, who is mainly engaged in basic theoretical research on civil law; a business law research direction, led by Professor Ning Jincheng, who is mainly engaged in commercial legal system research; and an intellectual property law research direction, led by Professor Wang Feng, who is mainly engaged in Research on trademark law and copyright law; Associate Professor Wu Hong is responsible for the research direction of family law, mainly engaged in basic theoretical research on family law. Criminal Law Major

The criminal law discipline of Zhengzhou University is the first unit to obtain a master's degree authorization point in the field of legal education in Henan Province. It has always been the strength of legal education in Henan Province and has been for four consecutive years. This year was identified as a provincial key discipline. This subject has an academic team with reasonable knowledge structure, age structure and professional and technical position structure, unity and cooperation, correct academic ideas, and active academic atmosphere; there are 8 professors under the age of 50 in the academic team, 8 of whom have doctoral degrees or Studying for a doctoral degree on the job, the subject leaders are Professor Lu Songyue and Professor Liu Defa. Economic Law Major

The Economic Law Discipline of Zhengzhou University was established in 1985. It is one of the earliest economic law disciplines in the country. In 1993, it obtained the qualification for master's degree in Economic Law. In 1997 , 2000 and 2003 were identified as provincial key disciplines for three consecutive years. After nearly 20 years of construction and development, this point has formed a stable and distinctive research direction: the economic law research direction led by Professors Xiao Gangang and Cheng Baoshan. There are currently 2 professors, 2 associate professors, and 1 lecturer. He is mainly engaged in basic theoretical research on economic law. This major has undertaken more than 10 planning projects at or above the provincial level, published more than 10 academic books, published nearly 100 academic papers, and won nearly 10 awards at or above the provincial level.

International Law Major

The International Law major is also a strong subject. Its research directions are international law, international private law and international economic law. The subject leader, Professor Zhao Jianwen, is responsible for the national social sciences. It is a science and technology foundation project and publishes academic works. It has published more than 30 papers in authoritative publications such as "Chinese Law" and "Legal Research".

Legal Theory Major

The research direction of the Legal Theory Major is jurisprudence and legislation. The research direction of the legal history major is the history of Chinese legal system and the history of Chinese legal thought. The major research directions of procedural law are administrative procedure law, civil procedure law and criminal procedure law. The major research directions of environmental resources law are natural resources law, environmental pollution prevention and control law and energy law.
