Rolls-Royce currently belongs to BMW and is a sub-brand of BMW. Before understanding this, you must first know one thing in the history of Rolls-Royce. After World War II, one of Rolls-Royce's main businesses was the production of aircraft engines. Debt losses led to bankruptcy in the 1970s. Later, under the intervention of the British government, Rolls-Royce was split into two companies, namely automobile and aero-engine companies. The Rolls-Royce brand is still used by both companies on two products. In other words, as long as Rolls-Royce still belongs to the United Kingdom, it can use the "Rolls-Royce" trademark free of charge. If it sells it, it can only sell it to the company, not the trademark, unless the aerospace engine company agrees. If the aerospace engine company disagrees, the trademark will automatically be owned exclusively by the aerospace engine company. In October 1997, it was announced that Rolls-Royce would be sold, with Volkswagen and BMW bidding. Because BMW has a very good relationship with Rolls-Royce Aircraft Engine Company (the two companies established a cooperative relationship in 1990), Rolls-Royce wanted to sell to BMW. However, because Volkswagen paid a higher price, Rolls-Royce hoped that BMW could increase the price. , but BMW said it would not offer a new price, saying that Mark 1 billion was the highest offer. On July 3, 1998, Vickers Group decided to sell Rolls-Royce to Volkswagen for 1.44 billion marks. But BMW has long stated that it will stop providing engines to Rolls-Royce and Bentley once Rolls-Royce cars fall into the hands of others. And on June 9, it was announced that it would be suspended on this day next year, with very serious consequences. Therefore, after the acquisition was successful, Volkswagen announced that it would give it to BMW. BMW got the biggest piece, which was the naming rights of Rolls-Royce cars. In return, it withdrew its decision to stop providing engines; what Volkswagen actually got was Rolls-Royce. Bentley is another famous brand among the products of Sri Lanka Motor Company.
