Magu is a female fairy revered by Taoism. Ge Hong's "Biography of Immortals: Biography of Magu" says:

" The content recorded in "The Legend of Immortals·Wang Yuanzhuan" is slightly the same. However, there is no record of the kinship between Wang Yuan and Magu in the above-mentioned two biographies. However, "The Posthumous Collection of True Immortal Body and Tao Tongjian Collection" states: "Ma Gu is Wang Fangping's sister, and she became an immortal through Taoism." ②Those who have been benefited by future generations.

Ge Hong's "The Legend of Magu" is famous for its rich imagination in later generations.

The words "Three fields in the East China Sea are mulberry fields" and "Dust rises again in the sea" have become the source of the famous allusions of "The changes in the sea and mulberry fields" and "The dust in the East China Sea".

Under the influence of "The Biography of Magu" and later generations of literati, female fairies named Magu appeared in many places. For example, Volume 131 of "Taiping Guangji" quoted from "Qi Xie Ji" records that Magu was a native of Taiyuan (376-396), Emperor Xiaowu of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, and was called "Magu, a citizen of Fuyang in the eighth year of Taiyuan". Later, he "vomited blood and died" after eating snake meat. ③Volume 270 of "Collection of Ancient and Modern Books: Shenyidian" quoted Magu from "Taiping Qinghua", "surnamed Li, courtesy name Qiongxian, a member of the Tang Dynasty."

She opened the lid of the pot, scooped out a little bit and tasted it. Ha, it was delicious. The child was ignorant, so she ate it all. When she thought of her sister-in-law, the Poria cocos had already been eaten, and she was floating in the air. Blue sky. After Magu ascended to immortality, Taishang Laojun taught her how to get rid of disasters, and she could throw rice into pills. Magu appears every year, cures diseases and eliminates disasters for the poor folks, and frequently grants good harvests. During the reign of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, people built the Magu Temple to commemorate this fairy. Later, she turned rice grains into pearls and scattered them on the ground, attracting greedy prison officials to chase them and escape from prison. Her father then led his troops to pursue him until they reached the edge of a deep valley. Magu was desperate and just about to throw herself into the valley. The Queen Mother happened to pass by, pulled out the jade hairpin in the auspicious clouds and threw it down the valley. It turned into a jade bridge and Magu was saved.

After crossing the deep valley, Magu, under the guidance of the Queen Mother, walked for nine days and nine nights on the clear wind and white clouds, and arrived at a fairy mountain on the sea. Here there are clouds and mist, green pines and cypresses; peach groves on the slopes, with large and delicious fruits; spring water at the bottom of the valley, passing through the solid rocks, gurgling like the sound of a flute and a sheng. So Magu devoted herself to cultivation in the pure land of this fairy mountain, carefully cultivated fairy fruits, and collected Ganoderma lucidum to brew fine wine. A few years later, Magu cultivated and became an immortal. She chose the third day of the third lunar month, took the brewed wine and picked fairy peaches, and took off to see the Queen Mother to thank the Queen Mother for her life-saving enlightenment.

To this day, the cave where Magu lived and the "utensils" she used can still be seen in Kunyu Mountain.
