The first country in the world to establish a trademark law was France. The Napoleonic Code promulgated by France in 1804 confirmed for the first time that trademark rights are equally protected as other property rights. In 1803 and 1809, France also promulgated two "Recorded Trademark Protection" decrees, which were the earliest single-line written regulations on trademark protection. In 1857, France promulgated a systematic "Trademark Law".
