A Brief Introduction to Silk Screen @ Founder of Silk Screen-Xu Laoshan
Xu Laoshan (July 15, 1878-September 18, 1943), a native of Xiangguan Village, Anping County, was a well-known Chinese medicine practitioner and a big shopkeeper in Ruyitang, Tianjin. His address was No.188, Henan Road, Tianjin, northeast of Jingang Bridge.

Xu Laoshan practiced medicine in Tianjin when he was young. His medical skills were superb and he had both ability and political integrity, and he enjoyed high honor at that time. He makes friends with people of insight in society, and treating the poor people is his way of practicing medicine.

The production process of ointment, pill, powder and pill of traditional Chinese medicine should be fried, sun-dried, air-dried and ground into powder. Especially, the ground powder must be sieved with rhodiola, which was a scarce item at that time. Ruyitang, a Chinese medicine firm run by Xu Laoshan, needs a lot of luodi to screen powder every day. Every household is also a must-have cooking tool. The brilliant Xu Laoshan set up a Luodi factory in his hometown Xiangguan Village in 1915, about 37 years old. Construction started in October, with 8 machines and 16 workers. At that time, the main raw materials for weaving nets were ponytail and hair, which not only met the needs of their own pharmacies, but also could be sold to the private market, so the benefits were very good. In 1916, Xu Laoshan bought flea spun silk in the south and knitted it into luodi, which increased the variety of the factory and improved the quality of luodi. Therefore, products are in short supply and are welcomed by the general public.

By 1918, Xu Laoshan, who was practicing medicine in Tianjin, had a broader vision and was influenced by various progressive ideas. After being recommended by a Japanese friend named Noji, Xu Laoshan, who is far-sighted, decided to build another wire mesh factory after investigation and analysis of the market, so he built a factory in the south of the existing Luodi factory, all of which are made of fine red bricks, which is spectacular. The locals call it "red house", which is the South Factory.

at this time, Xu Laoshan is no longer the idea of running a factory in previous years. He wants to standardize the factory and products, and to be an upright brand. Entrusted by Xu Shouchun as the commander of the Second Army of the National Revolutionary Army in 1927, Kang Youwei found a calligrapher to write factory labels. Unfortunately, it is impossible to verify who this calligrapher is.

in 1918, a factory named "Xiangguanxi Yulong Lead Wire Copper Wire Luodi Factory" was officially put into operation. The product trademark is "Shouxing" brand. It can be seen that Xu Laoshan had brand awareness and quality concept at that time. All the metal wires are imported from Japan (but the delivery is in Shenyang). After the product was put on the market, a new revolution came in many fields. Wire mesh has gradually replaced ponytail and hair silk products in some important industries. At the same time, it also broadens the application range of screen. Products from the original sheet bottom, one step forward to the era of winding net. Our products sell well in Shenyang, Shanxi, Hebei, Beijing and Tianjin.

According to two apprentices, Xu Laoqiang and Ma Dahai, who were over 8 years old in 1998, at that time, many Shanxi merchants from Taigu and Qixian came to the factory to buy goods in person, and some of them used horses and baskets. After returning, these Shanxi merchants directly exported to foreign countries along the Silk Road.

The factory has gradually established a complete management system, including cashier, accountant, salesperson, worker, apprentice, chef, etc., with a fine division of labor. According to the data in the factory at that time, Liu Jineng, Wang Sibao and Ma Yongxin were salespeople and several workers, mainly from Tangbei Village, Majiazhuang Village, Xiaolin Village, Yuanxi Village, Wandering Village and Biaozhong Village.

The factory flourished from 1918 to 1937, when the Japanese invaded China. Due to historical reasons, social unrest gradually declined, and the factory stopped production in 1941.

Xu Laoshan lived an open and aboveboard life, devoted himself to helping the poor, and had a strong patriotic thought. He resisted and cracked down on the Japanese aggressors in various ways and treated the wounded, and countless wounded and poor people were treated by him. Among them, the rescued: Anping Yili Village, Wang Yunxiao, later manager of Baoding Hongqi Shopping Mall.

Xu Laoshan had five sons when he was born. Under the influence of his progressive thought, all of them worked hard and enthusiastically devoted themselves to the anti-Japanese and national salvation camp.

Xu Laoshan has nine grandchildren, among whom Xu Bojun, who inherited grandpa's screen industry, is the head of the technical department of Tianjin Metal Mesh Factory. Xu Tiewen inherited his grandfather's career in traditional Chinese medicine and is now practicing medicine in Kunming.
