On January 7, 2009, with the approval of the State Council, August 8 every year since 2009 has been designated as "National Fitness Day".
On April 29, 2009, the National Fitness Day logo and theme slogan solicitation and selection activity sponsored by the State Sports General Administration and undertaken by China Sports Newspaper Corporation was launched. It was widely disseminated by more than 100 news media across the country. It attracted enthusiastic participation from the general public.
On May 8, 2009, China Sports Press invited the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University, the Department of Art and Design of the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts, the Olympic Art and Design Research Center, the Department of Art and Design of Capital Normal University, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, China Academy of Art and other professional colleges collectively participated in logo creation.
On May 14, 2009, China Sports Newspaper and Beijing Sport University jointly issued a notice calling on all teachers and students of BSU to participate in the creation of logos and theme slogans.
On May 19, 2009, the “National Fitness Day Logo and Theme Slogan Collection and Selection Activity Entered Tsinghua University” was successfully held.
The submission deadline is May 29, 2009. In just one month, the collection office received 1,315 logos and 9,320 slogans from 32 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across the country, as well as Hong Kong, China, Australia and other places. Applicants include more than 20 ethnic groups, most industries and classes, and outstanding applicants include 8-year-old kindergarten students, rural candidates preparing for the college entrance examination, and a 79-year-old professor at Renmin University.
From May 31 to June 12, 2009, the logo and theme slogan entered the review process. Expert judges include Zhang Wu, Vice President of the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University and one of the Olympic emblem designers, and Xinhua News Agency Director of the Ministry of Sports Gao Dianmin, Director of the People's Daily Sports Department Liu Xiaoming, Deputy Director of CCTV Sports Channel Cen Chuanli, Deputy Director of the State Sports General Administration Feng Jianzhong, Assistant Director Xiao Min, Director of the Group Department Sheng Zhiguo, Director of the Publicity Department Zhang Haifeng, Policy and Regulation Department A jury of 22 people, including Director Zhang Jian, President Tu Xiaodong of the Newspaper Headquarters, and Director Sun Daguang of the Cultural Development Center, made preliminary and final evaluations of the works.
After that, the author and experts made several rounds of revisions to the work. During this period, the Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce fully recognized the importance of the National Fitness Day logo and theme slogan to the people across the country, and enthusiastically cooperated with the trademark search, filing and protection work. On July 28, 2009, exactly 90 days after the collection was launched, the National Fitness Day logo and theme slogan ushered in a grand and warm birth ceremony.
