The Beatles (English: The Beatles) is a British rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. It is also known as "The Beatles" and "The Beatles" in Chinese-speaking areas.
The band members are John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They are widely recognized as the greatest and most influential rock band of all time. Rooted in noise jazz and 1950s rock, the Beatles explored a variety of musical genres, from pop ballads to psychedelic rock, often making innovative uses of classic elements.
In the early 1960s, their extreme popularity gave rise to the Beatlemania phenomenon. As their later creations matured, they were seen as embodiments of the ideals of the counterculture movement at the time. Over the next three years, starting in 1960, the Beatles performed in clubs in Liverpool and Hamburg, gradually building up their reputation. Manager Brian Epstein polished them into a professional band, and producer George Martin unleashed their musical potential.
After releasing their first chart-topping song "Love Me Do" at the end of 1962, the Beatles became popular in the UK. The following year, as Beatlemania spread across the UK, they acquired the nickname "Fab Four". By early 1964, the Beatles had conquered the American pop music market and become international superstars, leading the British Invasion trend.
After 1965, the Beatles produced a series of innovative and far-reaching albums, including "Rubber Soul", "Revolver", "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", "The Beatles (White)" Album" and "Abbey Road".
Music critics consider them to be the Beatles' best works. The Beatles broke up in 1970, and since then the band members have had successful solo careers. Lennon was shot and killed in December 1980, and Harrison died of lung cancer in November 2001. The remaining members, McCartney and Starr, are still active in the music scene today. McCartney also has the most successful solo career among the members and is one of the richest musicians in the world.
