Turn:

Confucius said: Zeng Shen! There is a truth running through my sermon. Ceng Zi said: I see, so Confucius went out. Other disciples of Ceng Zi came to ask: What does this mean? Ceng Zi told them that all our teachers said was loyalty and forgiveness. From here on, learning to be perfect is the way.

Detailed:

Zeng Shen, a disciple of Confucius, reflected three times a day. His understanding of Tao became more and more profound with his careful observation and practice of things in the world, but he failed to fully grasp the essence of things. So Confucius called his name and said to him, "Can you understand what I said?" ? There are thousands of changes and differences in the world, but their reasons are the same. If you pay attention to everything carefully, you will certainly have a lot of ideas, and you will not find a starting point, not a fundamental method. I think everything in the world can be related to only one truth, and no matter how ever-changing, it can conform to this truth. There is no inconsistency and nothing is inappropriate. For example, a river, even if it is divided into thousands of tributaries, flows from the source. For example, even if trees grow thousands of leaves, they all grow from the same root. The development is extensive and profound, and the summary is very frugal. This is what I call Tao. After listening to Confucius' words, Ceng Zi suddenly realized and replied: Only. There is no doubt that Ceng Zi's kung fu is profound and his knowledge is quite brilliant. The sage taught the mind method, and only Ceng Zi understood the true meaning, but none of the other students understood it. After Confucius went out, people around Ceng Zi asked: What does Confucius mean by consistency? Ceng Zi replied: The master said nothing special, but loyalty and forgiveness. A person's heart is the heart of millions of people, and what he desires in his heart is what others desire. If every thought in your heart comes from loyalty, you can pass it on to others. If every thought in your heart comes from forgiveness, you can understand the thoughts of thousands of people. With this heart, you can get through everything and be consistent, that's what it means. This is the mentality handed down by saints, and loyalty and forgiveness are the place to work hard, for no other reason.

Nan admits that this passage is one of the most mysterious places in The Analects of Confucius, which is similar to the Buddha's smile. Mind method can't be expressed in words, only understood. Confucius, like the Buddha, taught the mind in a mysterious way, while Ceng Zi, like Ye Jia, realized the wonderful mind. In the face of other disciples' questions, Ceng Zi explained them with loyalty and forgiveness, but this was just a way to deal with them. Loyalty and forgiveness are close to the Tao, not the Tao. For people who can't understand, this is quite appropriate. Doing your best is called loyalty. Don't do to others what you don't want them to do to you. This is forgiveness. This is where we should work hard. As for what "one" is and what "smile" means, you can only learn it by yourself.
