Guangzhou Old Baiyun International Airport is located on the west side of Baiyun Mountain in Baiyun District, Guangzhou. It was once one of the three major airports in China. It was used for military purposes from 1932, and later changed to a civil airport. On August 5, 2004, Guangzhou New Baiyun International Airport was opened and the old airport was officially closed.
After the relocation of the airport, the old airport was transformed into Baiyun New City. Baiyun New Town covers the area south of Huangshi Road, west of Baiyun Avenue, east of Guangzhou Airport Expressway and north of Beihuan Expressway. The planned total land area is about 9.22 square kilometers, and the core is the east and west runways of the old Baiyun Airport.
