GMS is the abbreviation of GREAT MEKONG SUBREGION COOPERATION in English, which means Greater Mekong Sub-regional Economic Cooperation in Chinese.

The Greater Mekong Subregion (abbreviated as GMS) refers to the 6 countries and regions in the Mekong River Basin, including Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Yunnan Province of my country. The region has a population of approximately 250 million, and domestic The total production value reaches US$190 billion.

The "GMS Economic Cooperation Program" was launched by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in 1992 to promote the Mekong River Basin countries and regions by strengthening economic ties. The ADB is the coordinating agency of the GMS cooperation mechanism and provides part of the technical assistance funds to carry out necessary activities. p>The priority areas initially identified by the GMS cooperation mechanism include transportation, communications, energy, environment, tourism, trade facilitation, investment, and human resources development. The GMS institutional settings include ministerial meetings, senior officials meetings; working groups in the above eight areas and Forum.

In view of the huge role that agriculture plays in the national economy of GMS countries, the GMS Ministerial Conference in November 2001 decided to add agriculture and natural resources to the GMS regional cooperation area. An agricultural working group was established on the basis of the eight working groups to promote agricultural cooperation within the sub-region.
